dafi reacted to clearway in HMS Victory by clearway - Billing Boats - 1/75
Not much advance over the weekend due to nice weather and gardening taking priority! Got the overlays for the prow, keel and sternpost in place, fine sanded the upper hull and opened out the "un-lidded" gunports. Next job is to attatch the wales when the timber on order with local model shop arrives.
Will leave final shaping of upper hull till as late as possible as i dont want to weaken the bulwarks on the quater deck too much.

holy cow!!!!!!.......and a floor show too ....more wine! I wonder what that sliver of material is for.........other than there is no rope on that tompion {cannon plug....I think I spelled it OK}.........no gun port lid {even though there isn't one on the one next to it}, or that there is no water shed roof over the port.....I'm keen to guess what you have in store very nice work Daniel!

Uh-oh.. a teeny-tiny banana peel and musical accompaniment. As Chuckles the Clown used to say: "A little song, a little dance. A little seltzer in your pants."
I think Popeye is dead-on... no rigols, no port lids and no lanyards. Or there's something to do with the gentleman fiddling with the cannon. The mystery deepens.

dafi reacted to Jerry in HMS VICTORY by Jerry - FINISHED - Caldercraft - Scale 1:72 - 1805 version
Hello everyone. It's Sunday evening and I realized that I have a some pictures of the latest progress from the dry dock. Unfortunately, I ran into a physical problem like friend Lawrence so I couldn't get any work done over this weekend. I developed a good case of a stiff neck and for the past 2 or 3 nights I haven't been able to get much sleep so I felt it best to give the build a rest. That's what one gets from sitting low and working high. (High as in height, LOL) I guess looking up for some time caused this pain I have in my neck so it's a rest for the build and one for me too. But since the last post I have finished mounting the Main Yard in place complete with sling, truss pendants and Jeers. Hopefully I'll feel better soon and can get into the dry dock again. I hope these pics make sense.... and for captions don't forget to run your mouse over the photo.. Best to all.

Good evening everyone...A little update from the dry dock. Another yard is finished and rigged in place. I am now ready to begin forming the Main topgallant Yard which, when done, will complete the yarding of the main mast. A few pictures to mark my progress follow. I hope all is well with everyone.

Good evening everyone.
A little more to report on this late afternoon here in Florida. Today I have mounted the Spiritsail topsail; yard. The directions are in the manual but an awful lot of studying is required to understand them. There was no problem in placing the parral bead sling as it went very well. However, trying to understand the making and installation of the two 3mm block halyard was another story for me. I wish that the kit manufacturer would be more explanatory and provide a few decent diagrams or photos...no such luck! BUT, that's where MSW shines and Gil and David's sites have come to the rescue once more. So the outcome is the yard is attached, photos provided, and tomorrow I'll tackle the Spiritsail Yard (The big one.) Please remember to put your mouse on the photo for captions....and have a great evening..

Hello Everyone.
Today is a gloomy day in SW Florida. We are entering our rainy season (hurricane season too) so it rains about every day for an hour or two and then the sun comes out strongly and in a few minutes it looks like it never rained. But today is a cloudy all dayer and I don't expect the sun will shine at all. But inside the Shipyard it's as bright as can be. I'm happy to say that the last of the mizzen yards have been rigged to the ship which completes all the mast yards and so it's on to the rigging of the bowsprit. I hope to start that tomorrow. The internet is a bit slow so I only have one photo to attach. When the others arrive I'll edit this log and attach them. I hope veryone is having a great ay. Best,
A couple of other photos just arrived..........

dafi got a reaction from BobG in In need of shipyard workers or boats crewmembers
Wonderful explanation the drawing attached, thank you! This is exactly how I worked on my 1:100 Preiser figures. Works the same for all other scales.
First vivisection ... ... and then reassembled, on the right, the poor lad before being transformed ... ... and left in his new life as gun captain, holding a leather bag against the vent to air seal it, for that no smoldering ashes is pushed upwards, while the barrel is sponged. Two of the Misters got funny tails made of paper stiffened with CA - one already can guess, the marines ... ... a bit of paint applied ... .... and the crew is complete :-) The lieutenant, the gun captain, loader 2 with the bullet, sponger 2 with the wad pads, powdermonkee, the marine (at ease, the crossbelts off and the button opened). Sponger and loader are already at their place, waiting for the rest of the gang, the second gun captain and the 7 auxiliaries to pull the strings ... Don´t ask what the ship can do for the men, ask what do the men have to do for the ship! Do not look at the figure and ask what could it possibly do ... The trick is to have a look at the task and then teach each single man how to be acting accordingly. Here is the crew in place, 13 men ... or a bit more inside the melée: drama baby - drama :-) Cheers, Daniel -

It started with the unhappiness about a ball of glue ...
... but also the 2 cored 0,15 mm lanyard appeared too thin, was too unstable and did not allow a decent splice without breaking the material.
The new 4 cored 0,2 mm looks much better and is easy to splice. That is why I went down the road again ...
... this was already shown, a blackend wire around a needel and cut open for the rings.
To fix the rings I used two pointed pliers (less carpetmonster-danger than tweezers!) opened the ring and in the same go - without letting go - hooked into the eyebolt and closed it.
Now I continued differently: Pierced the 4 cored lanyard with a sharpened needle ...
... pushed the needle through down to the eye, put the short end through the ring on the eyebolt ...
... and then through the eye and pulled it through. Took the thread out of the needle to be more free, pierced the lanyard from the other side, pushed the needle in down to the eye, introduced the free end ...
... and pulled again and the splice is done.
Secured with a drop of glue, cut neatly and things are done.
After taking down the old lanyards I realised that the old tube was stuck with glue and junk, inner Diameter smaller than 3 mm, but my smallest drill 3 mm and did not fit.
So I sanded a square point onto the drill which worked marvelously on the tiny tubes :-)
And things looked much less messy than before :-)
Some touch-ups on the paint will follow with time.

....and everyone thinks that third times the charm isn't it funny how, you do something......it looks great. a while later, you look at it again, and you see room for improvement. it looks so much better Daniel........your paving a road for so many folks! anyone who follows this build, will surely take the correct paths nice!
