New - and Reconstruction of the section of the second gun deck.
The cannon stayed the same, only the locking of the cannon barrel / mount (Lafette) was changed.

Bonjour Mathias, merci pour votre sollicitude. La Belle Poule n'est pas abandonnée. Depuis mars effectivement , pas de nouveau message. Le temps passe si vite. Quelques avancées toutefois ont pu aboutir.
Les photos valent mieux qu'un long discours.

Hello Mathias, thank you for your concern. La Belle Poule is not abandoned. Since March indeed, no new message. Time passes so fast. However, some progress has been made.
Photos are better than a long speech.

Ainars Apalais reacted to Chuck in Pegasus 1776 by Chuck - 1:48 - Swan-class sloop cross-section
I did reach a milestone of sorts.  I have completed all seven frames in phase one.  The frames will be built and installed in three phases to make it easier to manage.  Phase one has seven frames.  Once the frames are all done and dry fit in the keel,  you can start adding the port framing.  The port framing is tricky but manageable.  You will be removing the frames quite a bit to tweak them and the slots for the port sills so you can get a good fit.  Same is true for the sweep port framing.  Once you have the port framing dry fit nicely,  then we can glue all the frames in this phase permanently to the keel.  Then glue the port framing in too!!!

I havent glued it together yet....but that is the next step.  What you see in the photo are all the frames and port sills simply dry fit port and starboard.  I will glue it all together after the Connecticut show.  Then the frames can be faired outboard...and the alignment tabs you see on the inboard side removed as well...but I get ahead of myself.   Then its onto phase two and another seven frames done exactly the same way.

About time for an update, progress is slower compared to kit building ( those were the days...)

First of all  I'd sincerely wish to thank all members who replied to my topic "3D drawings 18pdr at 1/64 scale", posted last Februari 11. Among those generous offers, one in particular caught my attention as it exempted me from the necessary drawingwork as well as the production of the guns  itself. The final acquisition was the result of old fashion interchange. I can assure, guns are state of the art.

Aside from modelingmatters I find it very pleasing to chat with a fellow- MSW-member regarding other subjects and life in general. We agreed about the life-necessity of chocolate .  For the interested in 3D expertise: please contact "puckotred".
    Regarding the painting :
    - overall : AV RAL 7021, Black Grey 70.862.
    - edges and reinforcement rings were covered with AV 70.863 Gun Metal.
Although the pics may not show, the effect is very pleasing to the eye.
A modest attempt to scratchbuild the ship's stove is also included in this post ( + continuation )

Ainars Apalais reacted to tlevine in Swallow 1779 by tlevine - FINISHED - 1:48 scale
I have managed to get a little more work done on Swallow.  The rest of the fittings for the gun carriages have been made and the cannon have been installed on to the carriages.  The swivel guns have been installed onto their mounts.

I discovered that I did not fit the latches on the bitts, so they were removed and the latches were installed.  The hooks are made from sheet brass which was shaped with an A/O thin disc.

The tackle for the cannon was installed, as well as miscellaneous ring bolts on the deck.  The swivel guns and cannon were temporarily installed and the paint has been touched up.

  10. Thanks!

After adding the anchors and their rigging and the stanchions I can say that I am finished.

This was a fun build and I learned some new skills and also learned patience.

After a few days of intensive rigging I have the upper yard all done and making up some rope coils.

Was tricky to do but I kept going back and doing a little bit at a time.

    Thanks, guys!

I'm getting close to done.  I installed the upper deck, pinned and glued the cannon and rigged it.  Then I added the various gun accessories.  The only task left is to place stanchions with a guard rope around the ladder passageway.

    Thanks, Don!

I turned my attention to the gun port lids. These are made in two parts: the outer layer duplicates the outboard bulwark planking and is boxwood. The inner layer is made of 3 vertically aligned boards and made of swiss pear. The nail holes were laser etched into the inner layer. The hull is curved, but the parts for the lids aren't, so it was necessary to sand a curve into the outer layer. The original plan was to have operating gun port lids, and Don came up with some made of brass rod and sheet brass. Unfortunately I broke two of them while prepping for blackening. Sorry, Don!  The port lids will be vulnerable when glued in place, and I am obviously a klutz, so I figured I better make stronger, permanent and non-working lids. The hinge straps are cardstock with small yellow nails painted black. The "pins" holding the lids in place are .032" (21 gauge) brass rod. Solid. The hinge mechanism will be brass rod also. The eyebolts for the lid control lines has yet to be placed.
