Thanks to all for stopping in, for your comments and for all the likes. Got a little more done in the last two days mainly the ship's stove is now installed complete with a stockpile of firewood and an axe. The pump was also made and installed, this is a little kit included with the package, I think it looks pretty good. It came with 3 mm copper strapping for the bands, however, I replaced that with some card stock

Hope you enjoy, have a good evening

This post is about the final stages of the ship's boat, I won't bother you with a bunch of chatter and explanations, however, if you have any questions please ask. I will be happy to answer, even though it maybe just made up.
     Here we go:

When mounting the yardarms I'll normally drill and glue a pin to the back side of the yardarm then drill a hole into the mast to receive the pin. I don't think just a spot of glue will hold it for very long

Nice looking masts David. If you are installing the yardarms now I would at least completely rig them first

A short little update, I have started the ship's boat:

Here is the balsa blank and a picture in the manual showing how it should look when done. Let's hope!

    Laminating the top rails

Ripping some .5 x 5 mm planking to 2.5 mm wide. The off cuts will be used for the interior ribs. The carving of the boat in this picture is almost completed, shaping was done using a rasp and sanding.

Showing how the keel fits on the hull, a little bit of daylight showing there but the fit is fairly good.

First planking completed, one more layer to go

I have shown this before on another log but I thought I would show it again for those who might have missed it. To make oars I cut the dowels to length, these are 3 mm diameter, give them a good soaking in water then put them in a vice to flatten them. From right to left this picture is showing the dowel, the blade after coming out of vice then the final product after a little sanding.

The paint is still wet in this picture but these are the finished oars for the ship's boat

Thanks to all for stopping in, for all the likes and the great comments

    Enjoy Your Day

Nice work B.E. I like your method for the spiling I have done something similar but using a compass to trace outline, I'll defiantly try this method.

Mike: Thanks Mike, sorry to disappoint about the tarps. I seen tarps here on MSW somewhere and I think they used tissue paper, if I remember I'll let you know.

Ian: There is really no way of turning the mast tops in one piece, I carved those from 8 mm dowels. The very top end of the mast tops were made separately then attached later.' The sheave in the mast top, from what I can see, does not get used in the rigging so I suppose it could be skipped if you wish. I will have to check, but I'm sure I showed this in my log earlier on and if not I will look to see what I have here. Thanks for stopping by.
I just had a look, check out page three of the log
