I will echo the above comments and say well done indeed! The scarf joints along with the treenails and bolt location patterns are very neat, clean and uniform. They really make the planking look sharp.

    Martyn,
I am at the same stage as you and will wait in interest to see how your staining comes out as I still am unsure wether to paint the hull or do it as the 1:10 scale model has done the finish .

Hi Pav the tool leaves a mark in the wood then I cut them with a scalpel blade just to make them look more pronounced. Thanks for looking

Id like to come back to your scarf joint tool. If i understand it correctly, it works just like the stamping, right?

    Thanks for the likes guys.
A lot more work done on the Vasa .
The scarf joints have all been completed and the strakes fitted. The top of the doors for the main deck and the frames for the bow doors are made of metal and the instructions say to paint them brown but I didn't like the thought of that so have covered them with some thin strips and then stained them with the same varnish that I used for the deck . Next job a light sand of the outer hull and staining, hopefully some time this week.
    Thanks for following

I'm not sure what happened but I added to this 2 weeks ago but it hasn't appeared so am re posting with additions.
The fore mast with sails has now been completed but I have not yet added the tack lines. The mizzen sail has been fitted with a few additions. One of the tack lines is meant to go to a pin rack blocking the steps, this I attached to the poop deck handrail. I have added a block to the bottom corner as well.
I will need to redo the lifting tackle as I am not happy with the angle it is sitting at. The shrouds have also been added to the main mast and the main sail fitted. It looks far too large but need to stick with it. If I was any good at sewing I would try to redo all the sails as the seams now look far too big. I still need to tie the ratlines on the main shrouds and tops as well as cut the last of the thread from the pin racks but still need to perfect the loops first. I also do not want them held fast yet due to snagging the thread and losing the pins, along with being certain they are actually where I need them to be. I have found a good way, I think, of making the blocks with loops which I hope could be useful for other builders. I tie a piece of thread around a needle, then hold the needle in place with bluetack and tie the block on top of the needle and then, add a drop of superglue to the loop. As soon as the glue is added slide the block along the needle a few times to prevent it sticking and then remove the needle. see bottom photos.

It's a shame that they say they supply 48 figures  but in reality it is 12 figures repeated four times, then they make you pay again for the other twelve figures repeated another four times!

Work for tomorrow  -  smooth those two lift ropes (as they are a bit fuzzy)  using some watered down pva,    then I will start work on the main mast - same as I did on the foremast,  this is to allow me to make and fit the mainstay (as this will be more awkward with the  foremast shrouds completed).

I spent a couple of hours on the pearl this eve  - It struck me that the shrouds will obscure and work that needs doing inboard,  this included the spar lifting tackle, so after researching how this is done on the pearl  - I firstly seperated two lengths of thread found out where they are tied off/lashed on the deck  - this is along the front bulkhead railing containg some belaying pins, so I did a couple of twists around the pins and added a dab of ca to secure.   I then ran the rope upwards and through the one side of the block  - then I rapped the loose end round and secured with some tape till I later when I fit the yard - I repeated for the other side.

Just a few pics showing what I mean  -
