Thank you Chuck.  No its not mine, it's just a picture I found online. Though Its the model I want to build.  From all of the build logs of this kit i've seen the instructions have them plank from where the wale would be up to the top, then from the wale down, then finaly add the wales. so I just got alittle confused and found this picture that  I thought illustrated what i was asking.  I am actually still yet to build me first model. though I'm doing tons of research in preperation.

    Thank you Chuck!

Hi guys,  I'm still just alittle confused. Can we spile above the wales? I dont know how I would measure each plank width with no consistant reference at the top. Also the kit calls for wales after everything is planked. Can I just spile plank the entire thing from top to bottom then add wales? maybe use a waterline jig to draw a horizontal line as high as i can almost to the main deck and start from there? ( the pic is 1/48 HMS Surprise, not mine but what I want to build soon)

awsome! I just had one of those moments when it suddenly makes sense ( I love these moments).  Thank you Chuck!   I cant believe It's so hard to find the actual width and length of hull planks used on the HMS Surprise on the internet.

I think once I learn this new camera, it will give much better picture quality than the old camera. However to be fair, I never really knew all the operating aspects of the old camera. Perhaps this new one has a better auto focus feature as I have not even attempted a manual focus on either camera, much less all the other features.

Thank you everybody for all your suggestions!  sorry I couldn't respond earlier I've been so busy. I'm currently  on the Norwegein Dawn cruise ship and it's about to pull away from the Black Falcon Terminal in south Boston, next port of call Bermuda!. I just wanted to Thank everyone for helping me make a decision on what I should do before I lose the internet on my phone for the week.  Basically it comes down to 2 kits. As of now I am either getting the Philidalphia or the Supply. I like both for different reasons the 1:24 scale of the Philidalphia is really cool the cannons look huge! and also the flat bottom. The Supply just has a nice clean look to it.

oooh I think the ship is moving, I'm going to the top deck to watch us off.

Thanks Everyone! I'll be back friday.

    Hi Frank

Super progress so far. She's going to look great and like other's have said, why stop at building a cross-section? I'd be tempted to build the whole hull. Come to think of it, if you could just send me your scrap box of discarded frames........hehehe!

    Cheers

    Bob,

GREAT choice for your build. I really enjoyed this kit, and as you mentioned there is so much you can do in the way of modifications.

I'll be looking forward to your interpretation.

Love the way this is looking, the pear looks very nice.  Love the idea to build up the PE part, was looking for an idea to do this and you just gave it to me.  Would you mind sharing how you get the CA glue into a dental syringe, and where do you get them?  I'll be following you from here on out.

They say when you soak planks in water they swell then shrink when dryed.  Does that happen with steam also?
