I'm with Ferit on this. Adding random decoration is going to be difficult and could end up looking just like really strange bling. Leave it plain or get realistic decorations by buying a Pegasus PE set (these are separately available from the kit but the scale is 1/64), or something similar. That way you get all the additions that are right for the era.
If that doesn't fit - budget or otherwise, I reckon, straight up, plain is better.

Fun!? 200 kph (130 mph) winds last Thursday and 9 metre (27 feet) waves in Cook Strait (my new avatar gives an idea of what that's like)!!

Great to see you keeping going. The masts and spars will really transfrom the model - a whole other dimension. When others said to me "Now the fun begins" I doubted it but they were right. Masts and rigging turned out to be my favourite part mostly because each spar and line turned the model into something new. Enjoy - it's looking really good.

Thanks for the further feedback.
Ken - I wrapped the ropes tightly around spaced steel pins and the painted with diluted white glue. Tied them off with a couple of coils perpendicular to the main coil and then draped and shaped them around the belay point. See attached image.
Kyjack - Thanks. It was my first build too except for a strange attempt at a Dutch Whaler by Sergal many years ago. There are many other AVS builders here. I am sure they, like I, will help if you have any questions. It builds into a beautiful model and the scale is relatively easy to handle. Good luck and, most importantly, enjoy it. I look forward to seeing your build log!

Just spotted your question...no I can't - all the photos of the build were lost when my hard drive failed. All my model files for the AVS and many other ships that I was researching and scheduling just disappeared. I'm only just starting to realise how much I lost, nothing compared to the MSW V1 crash though...
I attach drawings of my memory of the process and a picture of the result on the finished ship. Best I can do I'm afraid. It is a cheats method but at this scale you can't even see knots this small in such rope. I think the rope was 0.25mm diameter. The bouy is about 10 - 12mm long. It is as close I can zoom in with my camera and an observant eye would see that my bouy rope has two cut ends...one too many.
