Had to take a few days shore leave. Back at it this morning. Got the first of the top gallant boards shaped and glued in place.
Next I will install the seat before doing the second top galant, this will make it possible to slide the seat in easily ( Thanks Don, I almost forgot you mentioned to do the seat first.) I will post more images once seat and 2nd row of top gallants are in place..

So, we continue trudging along. Working solely on the outboard trim at the moment and have one side all done and in place
These took a bit longer than the horizontal boards. The verticals required a bit of cutting and aligning. To do it I went down one board at a time.
This way I was able to control the alignment going down along the hull. Worked out pretty well, just had to trim out enough to fit it in the slot, slide it down to meet the board below and repeat.
After much toiling and fixing a few booboos along the way we have one side completed.
Once I finish the other side and the transom I will go over it with a couple of sanding sticks to clean up the roughness, a quick wipe with poly and she should be good to go!
Thanks all for stopping in, have a great day and happy modeling!

Pierretessier reacted to MarisStella.hr in News and Info from MarisStella Ship Model Kits
Now, when the interior is finished, it is time to prepare the construction for the planking ... Beveling needs to be done in detail ... Then the stern and bow blocks are to be done and installed onto their places... There are the freeboard supports needs to be installed too . Those are some kind of the first knight heads that are to be glued to the posts. They are made of 3mmx3mm strips ... Here are the photographs :

Frames finished (23 in all)
Having cut out the frames I stacked them and did an eyeball check on how well they nested. All seemed to be sensible with the exception of frame 8 which was noticeably too narrow by about 3/16 of an inch. I assumed that I had marked it out incorrectly so rechecked it against the plans. It turned out that I had marked it out correctly and the frame drawn on the plan was incorrect. The frames on the plan are all individually drawn rather than the normal convention of overlaying all hull lines on a single image. The latter approach would of course have revealed the error during the draughting of the plans. I corrected the problem by widening frame 8 with strips of wood on either edge and then sanded by eye using frames 7 and 9 as guides. See Photo.
I used the jigsaw to cut through about 80% of each frame at deck level to ease removal of the building board up-stand later in the build.
I then stacked all frames to satisfy myself that the transitions between frames seemed logical.

Thanks Don,
Did a second soak and went a bit to far with one and it snapped. Arg!
Anyway back on track, I also took out my heat gun and an Iron my wife had for wood burning. It has a nice large quarter size copper head and I use a dimmer to manage the heat...working good so far.
Here's the hull ready for rough sanding.

These are servo arms from my RC days. The thikness is just perfect to hold the planks flat on the surface. A bit of a complicated setup but I ran out of clamps...lol. Need more clamps...

Did a bit more planking, taking my time, meanwhile thought I would start shaping the 4 pieces for the top gallant rails. Soaked for 1 hr then put them in a jig and added some heat. I'll leave them in the jig overnight and take them out in the morning. Will most likely have to do some fine tuning with more water and heat.

Welcome to my official first build log and first ship build. After careful consideration, and thanks to many of you, I have decided on the Batelina as my first ship build. I was told this would be a good choice to get me going, so, I picked up this kit from Rick at Modeller's Workshop. He also hooked me up with Zoran from MarisStella, both are really nice guy's, going out of there way for the hobby.
Now to the kit itself, I noticed how nice a quality the wood was, properly bundled, no warping whatsoever. The laser cut plywood parts are equally nice. The step by step manual looks complete and readable, good pictures and a full scale plan with all the views needed.
One more reason I picked this kit was the two build logs I found on this forum. Both have super detailed build pictures and extra info not found in the kit.
Here is the one from Zoran
http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/11779-news-and-info-from-marisstella-ship-model-kits/?p=420044
And this one is from donrobinson
http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/14153-batelina-by-donrobinson-finished-marisstella-110/?p=438912
I'm not sure that I can add much to what has been done. This will simply show how a first timer can do at this kit. All that I can hope is for mine to turn out half as nice.
Here are some pictures after a few nights. Slow but steady....
Here you can see my home made Keel Clamp. Rudimentary but it works...
