Thank you everybody for your kind words and encouragements. You know, I really hate to be an unreliable man, and I feel unconfortable with saying I will post pics and I can't. But everytime I think I will have some time to go back to the workshop the amount of work (my real work I mean) increases and I'm away from home much more than I would like to... And as you can imagine with the Covid-19, things are not going to be better anyway soon. But that's my job and of course it is the priority.
Anyway, I have at last some real improvement to show so here are the pics !
At first I had to make some shaped pieces of wood (lisses de rabattues, don't know the english word, wich are molded) with a tarabiscot. Then I can plank the rest of the ship. I had to correct my drawings concerning the sheer cap railing (rabattues) and make them more parallel to the other "préceintes". (I don't find the english word, but I suppose it makes sense anyway). It came from an advice Marc gave me a few years ago. I did not make them more curve, in fact I even made them more straight, but I gave them less a "fan" shape.
So at last it goes forward. The left side is a little late but will be done in a few days.
Thank you for your interest, regards,
    Marc

The answer is simple. Petr. They are two different plans. The one (on top) was done by Cor Emke with AutoCad, the other one from the book (which is the second one you show here) is hand-drawn by myself. There are some differences, but nothing dramatic. Once you are on your way you will encounter some minor aspects that should be changed anyway. Call it 'developing understanding' over a period of 30 years. If you carefully study the 3D images of the 'witsenscheepsbouw' program, you will see what I mean.

    Hi All,

Another episode of ropes and accessories 😋

So currently I'm working on "upper level" of standing rigging like top shrouds and stays.
However, it's a good time to consider some other parts to install at that stage, so meanwhile I'm adding stuff like topmast rope and block or leechline and buntline blocks attached to the sides of main shroud eye.
It will be easier now and this way when there is some more space for fingers and not many ropes around.... later it might be 🤬🤬🤬

You can see also, that I've manage to do main yard halyard with one of the biggest block (ramshead) on this ship, hanging quite high above the deck 😏
Main yard is just test fitted and it will be removed.

Now it's time to jump to foremast top as it has similar "setup", but with just a little bit smaller rope diameter and blocks sizes.
Then last stay, which is fore topmast stay and somewhere in between futtock shrouds... and I will be ready to start with standing rigging tension adjustments and most likely fixing it in permanent position (hopefully 😳 )

    Cheers,
    Matt

    Hi All,
Thank you for your very generous likes guys!

So another small update from me.
Now I can say that standing rigging on level 1 is done
Time to slowly climb on upper level.

    Foremast stay done

    Gammoning also done.

    Cheers,

The best I can do is refer to this thread, Im posted this week:
I made the plans in 1980-1983 and built the model in 1983-1986. It was purchased by the Noordelijk Scheepvaartmuseum (Norther Shipping Museum) in my place of birth Groningen. The book cane out in 1994 and the English translation in 2012.
Here are some pictures of what the model looks like:

The last two pictures were taken during construction of the model, when it was temporarily place on exhibition ik the Groningen Museum in 1984.

I also built it in paper lately:

I can advise anyone planning to build a Dutch model to try this one. I learned a lot from building it. I'm sure Kopape will make a beautiful model out of it. So follow this thread!

The link to the program about the pinas is: https://witsenscheepsbouw.nl.

As to your questions in your first post: The book was published in 1671. The material used for the ship must be compiled in the period 1660-1670.
On paintings pinases are often depicted, although not as often as the men-of-war, which are a bit more spectacular than an armed merchant. Here is an example by van Diest:

Draughts were not made in those days, as you know. The '134 feet long pinas' by Witsen is only described in words and sketches in his book. In the next version of the witsenscheepsbouw program we will add all the information in text leading to the reconstruction, together with a lot more new improvements.
I have no knowledge about general Dutch source of knowledge about shipbuilding. Some museums have nice sites, showing some of their ship models, Like the Rijksmuseum (https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/nl/rijksstudio/2217046--janzwart/verzamelingen/scheepsmodellen),  but I'm afraid they won't bring you much further.
    You're on your own...

Thank you all for your likes.

Thanks to the amateur for explaining the differences between Witsen and Ijk. I didn't know this.

I have to apologize for the inactivity of the thread in the past 3 weeks. After an agreement with Ab, we wanted to start when the website for pinase is launched. Unfortunately, IT specialists understand PCs, not ships.

Thanks to Ab for explaining the origin and history of these plans. But I have one question:
Why do the plans in Nicolaes Witsen and Shipbuilding differ and in Dutch merchant ships? Specifically, this numbering and the table to it.

Thank you for your input and thoughts. Building models according to plan or their historical accuracy is a dilemma that every builder must face. Fortunately, nowadays there are already enough quality plans.

I waxed the railing, covered the part where there would be other equipment..

There really isn't room for a Pin Rail on the aft deck on this plan..

Keith, would you drive me in the ruin? The King did't pay very much

After the warm up rounds, now the next scroll. The left one is fresh glued and the wether is fine today, so it must wait. With the parts painted, you see at least all the unevennesses. This time I'm waiting till tomorrow and clean it then up. But I think this time I got it. The parts are 12 mm high.

Hello and thank you, thank you
I think I made it. Even when the scrolls look at the moment a little bit uneven. I hope that when the paint has dried, they look better.

Here one is nearly ready and at the second I started carving the basic form. As you could see, here are at least the rails smooth.

And here are both ready. The left is 8 mm high, the right 7.5 mm. The rails are 3 mm hight and 1 mm deep.

And here is all installed. The painter has painted just the rest. His favored paint is red, I think. I did't see him every day, but when I see hin he is painting red 😉

yes Druxey, I learned it the hard way. But at least I got it.

But now, my nearly new model!
The next days I would paint also the rest of the hull, before I start carving the scrolls within the hansing pieces.

Hello and thank you for all,
after a lot more pain I'm mostly ready with the Drift rails. 😄  Only a small quarter circle is left.

Because you could't see very much of the details when the rails are painted, I made some pictures before painting them. When I'm ready with the Drift rails I have to start painting the hull before making the rest of the decoration.

Well-meaning criticism is appropriate, from a person with your experience, Ab is beneficial.
I know from the beginning that the plan of this ship is not good, the authors drew from more sources.
The pins in the side railing of Dutch ships can be seen in the pictures, I found a debate on the Czech forum and there the most detailed picture of a Dutch warship - EENDRACHT from 1655 by van de Velde, he has pins in the railing.

    Another warship..

So the small possibility of placing them on warships was possible !?

The Dutch double deck according to the model in the book Der Hollandische Zweidecker von 1660-1670 by Heinrich Winter also has pins in the railing, here this model by Alexander Bielov..

I build the model as competitive, here the main consideration is the agreement with the plan, every change must be documented. So I'm looking for historical data..
