Ondras71 reacted to Baker in Golden Hind (ex-Pelican) by Baker - FINISHED - scale 1/45 - Galleon late 16th century
The plywood frames are replaced with frames of solid cherry wood.
After long thinking I took 9mm as a space between the frames.
It seems that the distance between 2 frames  could have been between 38 and 45 cm (on scale 1/45 =  9 to 10 mm).
This can match the width of the gun ports (40 cm) (10mm on scale 1/45)

    I made  a mistake :
I should have replaced the plywood frames first before start planking the upper hull.
Now I have a few frames that are in the middle of a cannon port.
I did not find any way to avoid this
I hope that this is no longer noticeable after the hull is fully planked.

Frames are supported at the top with soft wooden spacers (later easily removable).
All the frames are now too long ( Shortening them is easier than making them longer)

An extension must still  be provided to the transom for the poop deck.
But before I can do this, I must first know where the other decks will match the transom.
I think I choose for a balcony around the stern.
Maybe it's wrong, maybe it's right. Who knows?

    Thanks for following this buildlog

    Hello Everyone..

Today is the day that I have completed the build of La Nna. I'm seriously thinking not to put this boat in a display case so that one may get up close to it to see the details.
Nothing more to really say except that I'm happy to have finished this build and to add it to my small fleet.  I sincerely want to thank  everyone who has visited this log and I hope that my efforts will help anyone else who decides to build this model.
    Here are the final pictures.
    Best,
    Jerry

Getting the ship ready for her first planking I started to fair the bulkheads.  I also decided to put a filler at the bow to help with the bending and securing of the planks.  I used some scrap balsa wood I had and shaped it with my sanding sticks.  The hardest part about fairing the bulkheads is telling myself... 'don't rush and when you think you're done, do it again'

    Hello my friends,

I am still alive... and was always working a little bit on my Fregatte Berlin. So it came as far that the masts are all prepared, the yards are shapened and I startet with the challenge I love almost the most - rigging. I attached some pics to show the progress. I decided at least to fix the sails to the model. It will be some fun I think. There are absolutely no complications so far. The plans give you some hints but the most is done with expierence and a good book (Wolfram zu Monfeld).

I repeat my opinion: The model of Fregatte Berlin by Corel is not suitable to beginners. You should have built two or three ships before you start this. But it's fun and a very good method to relax and fade away to an other "world".

That's it for today - will be back soon(er or later)

    Cheerio

Sorry for the wrong queue... I could not sort the pics in the correct way

    Main Mast Futtock Shrouds:
Finished off the Futtock Shrouds to the top of the Main Mast today.

    Futtock Stave and Catharpins
2 Futtock Stave(I wound thread around brass bar for mine)
4 Catharpins from 0.5mm rope wound with black tread

Below shows the Catharpins tied between the shrouds, the Futtock Stave tied to the stays.

Starboard view of the Main Mast top.

Top end of the Futtock Shrouds. I made small brass hooks from 0.5mm bar, shaped and welded a loop in one end.

The lower end of the Futtock Shrouds. Looped around the Stave and Stay then tied below to the Stays.

    Up and under.

    More to go...

    Shipyard Update
Jeer Blocks for the 3 Masts:

I had a look at the Endeavour Fore and Main Mast Jeers single blocks. Each has 3 single blocks. The AoTS p103 indicates doubles on the yard and mast.

The Endeavour Mizzen just 1 single on the yard, stropped around the mast. And the AoTS p105 indicates similar. But how it was raised ? does not indicate.

Therefore I am using the following:
Added in the Jeer Blocks to raise the Yards up to each of the 3 Masts.

Fore Mast:  7mm double blocks either side, with lashing to the mast and the block double stropped.
The Yard will have 2 single 7mm.

Maine Mast(same as Fore):  7mm double blocks either side, with lashing to the mast and the block double stropped.
The Yard will have 2 single 7mm.

The Mizzen Mast:  For this block I deviated from the AoTS and Endeavour, to have blocks either side, so the mizzen yard can be raised by these.
Note: The mizzen topmast topsail yard has single blocks either side of the mast and a double on the yard. Page 104 AoTS.
I used a 6mm single block either side. The Yard to have 1 x double 6mm.

Might have a look at the crowsfeet and Main Stay Tackle next/soon ?

    I greet you maaaslo.
From the kit I used only the base of the hull, I used the kit material on it. Everything else is made from new purchased wood and accessories ..
It was important to remeasure all components to a 1:60 scale.
The boat is nice, I wish you enjoyed the construction .. Ondras

A number of things have been accomplished. First, I added the single strake of holly planking that I intend to have below the wales. Then, I made the fashion pieces that border the counter at the stern. These were cut from boxwood sheet and sanded to shape to fit. They were painted black and mounted. Next, I added black painted moldings to the lower and upper counter. Lastly, I applied a coat of Wipe-on Poly to the counter and the lower hull from the wales down.

Next up will be the planking above the wales.

Well, here's her final resting place in our Foyer, just up stream from the San Juan Nepomuceno.  :-)

Incidentally, the old map is of a province in Italy I acquired while stationed there many moons ago.  It'd had been sitting in my storeroom for 20 years, just waiting for an excuse to be framed and mounted.

(Yes - I realize it's not Genoa, Italy where Columbus was from, but I think it's cool none-the-less)

Still sanding on my long boat, but I have made progress on my jolly boat. The sanding looks good and its an even thickness using the calipers. So I stained the interior and sanded the stained the wood for the framing, floorboards, thwarts and thwart supports.
I glued in the "keel" and first frames as well as did a rough gluing on the aft grate.
