As it turns out, I've worked as an editor for many years and have written freelance for various outlets, so writing this wasn't overly burdensome! It's still a good feeling to contribute to the historical record.

FWIW, here are the  chain plates in the Campbell drawings.  I feel Campbell can be taken on good authority.

I think the kit provided parts really compromise the quality of your build.

The look above could be achieved  with some annealed steel wire. My best guess would be 22 gauge.

This little snip from the Speedwell plans by Chuck show how simple they could be.

Here is a drawing I found from a Museum in San Francisco

Thank you, Bob. Unfortunately a HL is down the list a ways if at all. Psst, don't tell anyone but after this project is done I've got one more sternwheeler to squeeze in before getting back to the Tennessee.

Eberhard, thank you for the comment. When working in larger scales I use the pads of my fingers, at 1:120 I work with my fingertips. With experience I've learned how much pressure I can apply when working with tiny objects. Material size and physical limitations are indeed humbling.

I got the Myers water pump made and installed. It's been a long time since I've made a piece of any complexity that hasn't been under a roof.

There are 7 pieces to the electric motor and 14 piece to the pump not counting the belt. The water pump pulley isn't a pulley per se but it's the only wheel I had that worked in scale. Those that followed my Tennessee build may recognize it as a sew on clothes snap.

     The electric motor is 0.10 inches W x 0.20 inches L. The pump is 0.275 inches W x 0,50 inches L.

This is just a fun photo putting this little guy's size in prospective.

Roel, it's always the builder who sees the perceived errors in the model. She looks first class.

By the way, you probably had right of way over the bridge!

Fun news! I'm a member of the Katy Railroad Historical Society, which publishes a quarterly newsletter covering the railroad's history and various modeling projects related to it. The September 2025 issue publishes an article I wrote about the Peerless modeling project and its connection to the railroad. The newsletter is print-only, but they graciously sent me a PDF copy of the article with permission to distribute to people I know who aren't KRHS members (specifically including MSW members).

If you're interested in reading the article, send me a private message through MSW with your email address, and I'll send you the PDF. Here's a screenshot of the first page to whet your appetite. Also cross-posting this on my build log for the Peerless.

Welcome to Model Ship World Willi.  Working sailing ship models, especially square-rigged models have been a source of utter amazement ever since I read John Bowen's book on the subject many moons ago.  Your models are absolutely beautiful!  I hope we will be treated to more of your work in the future.

Thank you, Glen. It's hard to believe (even for me) that If it could be folded flat it'd fit in your billfold.

Thank you, Paul. The color is a mix of lime green and royal blue.

Thank you, Eric. So much of this build is black that I looked forward to being able to add a wee bit of color.

Thank you, Roel. For believability at this scale painting tight lines is an absolute necessity and I'm getting a bit better with weathering though I still have a ton to learn. I couldn't do any of it without my 6X glasses.

Thank you, Ken. An accurate portrayal of the subject was mission critical from the start, I hope to be somewhat successful at the end.

Thank you again, John. Weathering is fun but I still get too heavy handed at times though that's pretty hard to do with this particular subject.

Once you get used to the small scale, it is not so different from working at a larger scale. The problem are only the materials limits: you can get thin enough wires, (metal/plastic) sheets, threads etc. or at those small sizes they become difficult or impossible to work ... well of course, age takes a toll on our eyesight and perhaps dexterity too 😐
