this is what happens when I don't check in ?!?!?! I'll have to do a video of what happens when I'm on the floor looking for lost parts. Gibbs comes over and it turns into a love fest I have to shield where I think the part is, so it doesn't get caught up in his paws. it's so comical! thanks for the kind word all........and thanks for all the likes two days are done........two more to go.......another exhausting week to be sure. in spite of what happened, getting the railings on wasn't too bad.......it could have been worse. I need to better control the CA, so I don't get the smears. now I need to paint them.......that will be a task in itself
thanks again everyone!

So, 2-1/2 hours later I have a replacement carved. pretty fast for me. They are still not awsome but I think I can live with them. The replacement went easier than the others, I imagine if I kept tinkering and remaking I could get them better. From 18" away a lot of the @&^$#!! fades away.
I have started relieving the sides for the shrouds on the top block
From 18" away (75'??) they are passable:

ARRGH, Between Friday night, yesterday morning and today I have managed to carve 3-1/2 sister blocks. 3-1/2 because as I was finishing up the last one I managed to break it in the middle. I epoxied it back together, put it in the oven for an hour with the pilot on and then left it out for another hour to cool (epoxy is soft when warm). When I un-clamped it it just fell apart......... Murphy strikes again!!!
Pictures below. They are still not great but I don't know if I can do much better:
I re-carved the Main blocks, as I was shaping them I was referring to the lower picture and forgot I was making the upper, I cut off the bottom dovetail. I reshaped them, they are better than the first go around but still not great.
These Fore blocks are TINY!!! They were coming out somewhat better than the Main until this:
Murphy had a good chuckle.
Oh well, I am not at work, Better Half is home and the Dodgers won in the 12th after a power outage last night. I am just glad the power did not go out while I was in the restroom!! Or worse, walking down the steps to my seat with a beer! That could have been interesting.

Hi OC
I have had to do similar painting things on models in years past and as I didn't even own an airbrush had to brush paint just as you do.
I found that if you pour a small puddle of paint onto a flat surface you can dip the item into the paint and then brush OFF the excess with a dry brush rather than paint it on. smaller stuff you can just dip into the jar.
Sounds odd but it worked for me back in my younger days.

It is interesting to see something about the size of a truck in real life be reduced to having to use a macro lens to even see the details!
Nice work and interesting presentation OC

I'm going cross eyed just looking at the pictures! I can only guess how hard it is to make these things! Great work OC.

Super recovery, OC I think the new setup looks MUCH better than the old one, and should certainly be stronger!
I do think I missed out on something though, as Carl would say. Why did you make the canvas around the searchlights in three pieces rather than just one?
Again, it really is looking great.

Great work OC
Looks like everything is coming together just right. In fact the funnel looks jut like you would expect on a ship in dry dock for extensive repairs!

Sorry that things went so badly OC
Do you think it would be easier to just copy the platform onto a piece of plastic and make an entirely new unit? If you have the plastic sheet and dowels already it would seem like it would easier and cleaner than scraping and sanding ETC.

They were the top of the line in WWII. Their upgrades and modernization came years later.

It always made me wonder what the Arizona, Pennsylvania and other US WWI battleships would have been like if they had gone through similar major modernization's between the wars. The Japanese did a pretty good job on their older ships as well.

If you were building her as she was in Jutland she would have two!

In case you want to add some fine detail to the coal shuttles before you cover them up here is a real one:
I was installed for my house in 1898 so it should be contemporary to your build.

I know that the brass is pretty but, they still look better somehow painted when they are in their proper place. Kind of like brass cannons just don't look as good as blackened cannons on period ships.

Micro spiders trying to mess up your fine work. Only 15 more to go so you should be done in about a week?

I haven't raised them at all! The cat is about a year old and the dog is only four months old. they either are sleeping, getting into everything, or rough housing with each other all over the house. We are just here to feed then as far as they are concerned.

No I think I have to take all the credit for that. I am fully in charge of the "Mistakes made while you wait" department.

I think my cat is feeding parts, (In my case sticks) to the dog for him to chew! I keep finding small pieces on the floor with teeth marks in them that had been on the table the day before.

You mean I get to blame Sjors for my bad behavior? I need to do channeling more often!
Good to see a little progress on this build Denis. Looking good.
You know you won't be able to resist letting us in on the insanity you are contemplating. Might as well let us in on the secret now.
