Hi Piet, thanks for the kudos. No, I don't intend to build a case for her - unfortunately I don't have the room for one. I have an actual large piece of rough cut wood from the Bowsprit of the real Morgan that I intend to make into a base for mounting it.

Well today I managed to get a few things done. The Fore Lower Yard is completed. I got it rigged, mounted and squared with the lifts. Been a busy day, as any of you that got a drawplate from me as they got shipped out today. Still 2 left. The chain sheet lines are an interesting feature of how this ship was rigged as well as the double topsail sails. Three yards to go. Hard to believe they will be the last physical parts to be installed....The end is really approaching....then what????? Details once again are on my website for anyone interested.

For some reason I have procrastinated securing the anchors. I've done everything else, but just bypassed this. Since I'm now working in the bow area it's time to bite the bullet and just do it! After that I pre rigged the Fore Lower Yard, painted it and glued it in place. I did not square it or rig it ....that's tomorrow.

Thanks for all the likes guys. Thanks for stopping by Greg I appreciate it. Yeah Piet, she's almost ready for some action. I too am against whaling. I think it's a real shame how we hunted these gentle creatures. I really like this particular ship and have been aboard her many times. I'm building the ship and not the industry if you get my jest...

A little more progress as I work my way up the Main Mast. Got the Main Upper Topsail Yard completed and hung off on the parrel tub using a chain halyard tied off to another block and then belayed to the stbd pin rail. Details and pictures on my website. It still needs to be squared and other lines run before moving up to the Top Gallant.

Hi Tony, yeah, she's getting real busy and crowded. I'm currently working on the Upper Topsail Yard and wondering how all of this is going to fit inside her...lol. Still pondering the scratch, not sure what I'm going to do yet....still got time to think about it. Thanks for dropping in BE, nice to see you here. She is a working boat for sure, glad you like the effect.

OK, today I managed to finish the remaining whaleboats. They are sitting on the boat bearers for photographs only. These little buggers were a lot of work but lots of fun. Repetitious, but each a model in their own. All details are explained and photographed on my website for those following along. This completes BUILD LOG V on the site. Off to finish the running rigging...the end is in sight...wow!

Hey Tony, thanks for dropping in. They actually carried a few more kegs, 2 more harpoons and lances, 5 paddles, shovels, hooks, grapples and just a lot of stuff for one of these small boats. Once the Mast and sail goes up, and the oars are out the deck gets a lot of room real fast....imagine though putting 6 people in there with all the rest of this stuff. Hi Grant, yes, lots of details. Hmmm, seems a bit odd that you and Tony got back to back comments and also responded back in the same post....did you sneak back to UK Mate??????

Hi George, I've been thinking about that same idea for a while now. I'm going to put all of these on the ship, but I'm considering making another one to display all opened out. This would especially be good if I could find 5-6 scale sailors to go in the boat. At 3/16" scale these are hard to find....this is open for suggestion guys?????

Today, I managed to make the Harpoons and Lances. Typical boat had 5 harpoons and 3 lances, but I'm only doing 3 harpoons and 1 lance per boat. It's getting crowded and I don't want to overload them. Details are on my website for construction again. Got to do some metalwork today...fun.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
