OUTSTANDING Sir! Around 5 years to build… and it’s your first? I want to be around to see the perfection of your 2nd or 3rd venture! Well done! 👍😀

Your display set up really looks good! Are you going to have a case made or build one yourself? The rigging is a dust magnet and hard to clean so if you have not done so already, maybe consider covering her until she is in a closed case.
Congrats on your project!!
Allan
thanks allan , it is in a display case now , i had to have one made from acrylic ,(because of the size ) by a local company, thanks

well . its been a long time since i put anything on the log , i started the build in october 2018, its now january 2023 and shes completed at last , obviously i havent been continually working on her but shes now in a display cabinet , really didnt like the stand that was in the kit so i made up something that looks similar to a dry dock platform , and im really happy with it

Yes I agree, the copper plates are from the caldercraft kit which is 1:72 as opposed to the billings which is 1:75. but ,saying that, the rivets/nail heads would be enormous scaled up, the same reason I haven't put nail head marks on the decks, I don't think they'd be visible at that scale. If you look closely there are quite a few more errors across the build but I won't mention those . the ships boat is part finished and just placed at the moment, I have to admit its not the correct one but it was the only one I could find at that scale , I am building another shipsw boat, slightly smaller, I'm not quite sure of the colour scheme for them so I need to research that
Thanks Jeff

At last she's ready to launch! Finally finished, there are are maybe a few little adjustments to make here and there but I'm quite pleased with my first attempt, I almost gave up on a few occasions but really chuffed with the outcome , ,all and every comment from you guys is welcome ,whether it's positive or negative, and thanks for your support during the build , it's very much appreciated

its been a while , again , but i havent given up on the build , i just havent had any time and didnt want to just do an hour here and there with large gaps of time in between , what with work, and other commitments etc , now that the nights are dark and cold again ive returned to the attic room where victory resides on the bench where i left her , probably 11 months ago , and , so onto the ratlines , i must admit i struggled to get going with these , but im almost there after about a month of trying different ways of making them look authentic , also i wouldnt recommend doing these after all the main rigging is on , very difficult to get to , hopefully i can get some photos up soon to show how they look , thanks again for your support ,

First build newbie, here so please be gentle lol, I've been building my hms victory for the past three years , and not doing too badly so far, ive done most of it , but I've come to point in the rigging which is frustrating me, so I thought I'd better try to get some advice from someone with a bit more experience , s so ,what is the best way to attach the ratlines so they look authentic without having to spend the rest of my life tying little knots while trying to keep the tension correct on the shrouds? Any ideas are more than welcome

ok i remembered how to upload photos so here are a few , please excuse the messy work bench , this is how i work lol i have made the gun carriages and fitted the lower ones, the lower staircases, werent part of the kit , there was just a square area , i didnt like that , i saw some pictures of the real ship and thought ive got to add them , the capstan is also my own addition , and the lower row of gun ports will be closed when the ship is completed , i dont think it needs all the cannons on show thanks for looking

hello again , i know its been a while since posting anything on the build log , lots of excuses , main one being my beloved wife changed our computer , so i lost the login to get onto the site , but as you can see ive managed to get back on . and, no i havent given up on it ,it appears to be a winter project , when the nights are dark and miserable outside , and im allowed a bit of time to myself , luckily my attic room is left as it was 10 months ago , so its a matter of trying to remember where i left off , the rigging is where i am at the moment , and on this model there is a fair bit when your a newbie ,and ive got a couple of reference books now so i can turn to them ,problem being they do tend to contradict each other sometimes but far better than the kit instructions , and, i have found that walking away when your enthusiasm drops is a good idea as you dont fall into the trap of rushing it just to get it finished , anyway , i'll post a few more pictures soon to show what progress has been made since the last time and await any advice or critique
cheer guys jeff

im just giving an opinion here , but i would have thought that given the angle of the shroud relative to the mast ,under strain there would be more pull on the rear shroud as the wind fills the sails , and so the sensible thing would to put the single shroud to the front ? i know thats irrelevent on a model

thats great , i thought it may be something along those lines , but wanted to be sure , now i can carry on without worrying whether i was doing it wrong , cheers

i may be being a bit daft here but ive looked through the literature i have and cant see an obviuos answer so , perhaps someone can give me some advice ? its my first build and im in the process of making up the lower shrouds on my hms victory kit , now the instructions are vague at best so im getting some tips from the rigging books which i have bought , which describe doing the shrouds in pairs on alternate sides from front to rear , now the main mast has 11 large deadeyes on each side , so i cant make a pair from the last one , any ideas please?

well , i thought it about time i put an update on the log ,i know its been a few weeks , been busy researching how to do some of the little complicated bits , i bought a couple of books which have been recommended by many builders about rigging and masting , and have been practicing serving and decided to have a go at building the bowsprit , im quite pleased so far , put some fiddly bits on and made some yards on my home made lathe , also swapped the kit deadeye chains for more realistic looking ones and fitted them , also ive been trying to work out the best way of making the side netting hammock stays and how to sew the netting on , ive had to make quite afew little jigs to hold the work
