as with the S&M build,  here is the update I promised you folks........it's comprised of everything done between the tenth through the fourteenth.  for the first order of business........the cab was painted with the flat red.

I did fix the gaps at the walkway tabs.......no more spaces there.

there are grab handles along with a few other parts that need to be painted........so they were gathered and painted.  before I can add the roof to the equation,  the windows will be added.

it's not a clear picture,  but the arm rests were added and some grunge was dabbed on

the sand handles,  grab handles,  and coupler block were added next.

for some reason,  one set of grab handles were gold chromed.......I left them as they were.   I may grunge them up a little too.   due to the roof beam being outside of the cab,  I didn't bother to raise the height of the canvas door.

last but not least.......I began to assemble the bell bracket.

I'll put the shiny part on later,  after it's painted.

thanks Ken...........now that I've assembled the cab,  I think that cementing the back wall flush with the side walls,  will cure a lot of the issues.  at the same time,  remove those tabs on the side walls,  so they don't interfere with the seats.   also.....by doing this,  it will put that beam {rib} of the roof frame on the inside of the cab,  rather than the outside.  I have given thought towards drilling new holes for the canvas,  a bit higher,  so to cloud that issue {although it really doesn't hurt the model too much}.   this is the Round 2 model release in 2015.........I have a feeling that they didn't do any retooling on the molds,  so the original release may be plagued with the same problems.

thanks for the additional grunge tips........I'll include it when I do the rest of the paint

Thanks Mark, and to every one else.

I'll be starting the next 2 boats in the morning.  I'm going to work them at the same time as it'll save me some repetition time like having to reset the laser for each thickness of wood since I can cut two with one setting.  I'm finishing up tweaking the drawings from what I learned on the first one.  So diving off the deep end again but into familiar waters.

They are angled out a bit.  I'm not sure what happened as during the test fits they were vertical.  I suspect that during the glue up I didn't get them fully seated.  One of the few things I'm not happy with.  I'm afraid to try to unglue them as what ever I use will probably basically destroy the boat by releasing the frame, planks, etc. in that area.  I may just have to redo the whole boat.  I'll think a bit and try some things before I engage is mass destruction.  If the glue bond isn't that hard, I might be able to just pop them off.

Looking really sweet Mark. I hope you spent the dime wisely...perhaps on some TicTacs, the international unit of scale measurement! 😉

Thanks Carl, but the blue is only temporary tape to be removed later.  I hate dropping parts into bowels of the ship never to be seen again.

Thanks for the comments, the likes, and sticking with this journey.   No worries on the dime anymore... I spent it.

I made the chocks and installed them into the Licorne.  I've since been attacking the drawings making fixes for error areas discovered on this boat.  Here's some pictures of it in place.  It's not glued in yet as I need access to the area astern where the mainmast goes.  Once I'm done figuring out if I need to pre-installed suitable lengths of line for rigging the mast, I'll do that.  I suspect this will keep me off the streets and out of trouble for a few days.

I copy and save the image from where I got it,  although I have scanned stencils and stuff.  I do believe though that photo shop has a much better color spectrum to work with.  if I knew better how to adjust the values on colors,  I'd likely have a better time with this.  the everyday colors aren't much of a problem.....it's the in between colors,  like pastels,  that are hard to deal with.

How are you importing, Denis?  If using a scanner, spray a sample color onto a piece of scrap plastic or aluminum foil. When you scan, you have the color you need.  Many paint programs let you pick a color from the image and use it for "touch up" or even area "fill".

hey there Sam.........you must mean my using the paint bottles to weigh down the interior,  while it was drying.   I was wracking my head thinking 'bout what you were referring to.......it's the only thing I can think of.    just me being resourceful

I don't believe I've ever tried that with photo shop.   when I import something into the decal maker,  it's just the image......a single layer.  the background is the paper,  whether I'm using clear or white.  for some decals,  I like to use white paper,  because the white acts as a backing for the image,  and I change the background to match the color I'm painting the model.  it's hard to match colors that are in between the normal color spectrum.   though I can change the color values,  I haven't done it too much,  since I don't use it enough.   I should take a day and fiddle around with it......use regular printer paper for tests.  I do have a photo shop program.......I'm not sure what I have in my computer......I only use it to size down my pictures.  but that's what your referring to........the background {and I changed it to that color}.  the one big problem I have with this decal program,  is that it has a transparency issue.  printers only max out at 600 dpi.......a good decal image needs to be more than that.   if I were to lay a decal,  printed on clear paper,  on a darker color,  it would disappear or hardly be seen.

Sam well you don't expect me to believe that do you, you and I know you went over your prepay limit 😉😉.

I was going to paint the bottom green and varnish above, but it all depends on how the sanding comes out.

Hi all, continued working on the little stuff...worked up the gun carriages... cut and glued up small bits for the sides, base and axles...
    ( lousy focus...phone cam)

    and painted them all

while I was laying out all the fore deck accessories I discovered a major fubar....I drilled the foremast mounting hole to far aft...it should be where the yellow circle is.   If left where it is the windlass placement will interfere with the gun carriages...guess I should have triple checked.

Plan is to fill the hole with a dowel, the windlass will cover it so hopefully it wont be to noticeable...shezz

Wo! WO! WO!! Wait a minute!!! I didnt drink THAT much on our cruise. We did pre-pay for the drinks before we left so had to make sure it was worth it.
    Jo,
I must have missed it when you mentioned you cleaned all the glue up. Carl has me so afraid of showing a mistake that I have to re-do everything before I take a picture. And besides, the more redos the lower the cost of build per hour.
What color do you plan on staining? at one point you mentioned something about green paint and stain below??

What is this?!?!?! I go away for a few days and come back to a GIRL planking like a Pro! 😀 Well done Jo, I had a big smile when I saw how far you progressed in a short time.
If you are going to stain, you will want to make sure you get all the glue cleaned off your planks, ideally with a damp cloth before it dries. Sanding it off later can lead to interestingly unanticipated results.
And what pray tell my tea drinking friend, caused you to stagger down the walkway of your neighbor?? You havent been sneaking a thimble full of wine behind our backs have you?

    Vossie,
Catching up here. Looking real good as we have come to expect. I second Dave's suggestion of epoxy. I used 30 minute on mine rather than the more common 5 minute, its stronger although you have the added chore of how to clamp it properly. I made round headed nails and the combination seems to have worked well. My bigger challenge was when the started growing fuzz on them. I believe from the baking soda/water i dumped them in to neutralize the blackening solution.
Congratulations on you new dockyard supervisor, mine has finally given up on trying to school me in ship tasks. She used to remove any parts not up to her expectation and carry them into the kitchen where the became House Hocky pucks.

Thanks Paul  Tonkinese frequently change their color significantly starting around week 8 or so, Takita looked very much like the new little one does now when Takita was a little kitten. But it's not predictable, should could end up fairly light colored as she is with small contained points, or she could go the direction of huge points and very dark red hair of Takita.

As for the ship, in all likelihood I'm going to rip these brass pieces off and bite the bullet and resand and refinish the lower hull and start over with a material somewhat less perverse. Very annoying but brass just can't be used this way very well, only way to make it work is with actual mechanical connections by drilling holes in the strap and using round-head brass nails. Also annoying as although the straps are still fighting me, the rudder is perfectly positioned and aligned at the moment. Ah well, I went down a path thinking I could work around brass' dislike of glue but that turned out to be a misjudgment. Cue plan B.

Takita and I were very close. It was quite a long time before I could even think of the subject.

Thanks Gregory. These brass straps have pretty much become a giant white cetacean and I'm playing Ahab. Although if I can't get them looking better than they are now, I will end up ripping them all off and having to resand and refinish the entire lower hull, the planking is old enough now that it's oxidized and darkened a bit so there is no way to do spot sanding.

The easiest thing to use would be styrene, but I don't much like putting plastic on a ship. Second best is probably wood as you say. Another option that I have used many times is paper soaked in thin superglue. once it sets but before it fully hardens, you sand both sides smooth and it makes a very strong and reasonably flexible composite material.

I'm just using brass because that is what is traditional so I wanted to do it that way at least the first time. That turned out to be a terrible idea.

Had company for another week, and haven't gotten much done but am plugging away at the #%##@@#$@#$ rudder. Well not the rudder itself, it's ok, but the damned brass gudgeon straps that go on the hull, I have been driven past distraction to insanity.

Star Fleet personnel couldn't glue brass. I don't know why all frying pans aren't made out of brass, because nothing sticks to the stuff. Not even lacquer primer on a cleaned surface, just handle it for a few seconds and pieces will fall off. GAH!

I made the tiller as close as I could to one of the Tony's contemporary models, but this kit is designed with the tiller going around the top of the rudder rather than inserted into the rudder head as I see in the contemporary models. It's done except for a flat clear coat on the tiller.

In other news, I had lost my previous Dockyard Supervisor last year, her name was Takita. She sat in my lap pretty much every minute I was home for 16 years, because I was not competent to do much of anything without her input.

Yesterday I went to visit the new Dockyard Supervisor, who is also Tonkinese like Takita, but four weeks old. In two months when she is 12 weeks she will begin her education into how ridiculous humans are and how they desperately need cat supervision at all times.
