My understanding of the above is rope x (1.1 plus a bit) x 8, i.e. multiply rope by 8.8 and add 8 bits which I believe equals one dollar, pun intended. Let's just say 9.

So, based on the above formula, if I am using Chucks blocks and ropes I can multiply the rope diameter by 8 and go with the closest available block. For instance if I have a scale rope that is 0.025"D multiplying that by 8 gives me 0.20." my closest choices are 3/16" and 1/4." 1/4" would be easier to rig but 3/16" would probably look better if I have understand this correctly.

Grant, I am afraid that may be your order ID. I looked at mine and have 3 different numbers - assuming we are looking at the same thing. And I see I let my membership lapse for a YEAR!!! Shame in me!

Nothing wrong with posting an idea in my book John. As long as people can discuss it like adults. Its when the name calling and such starts that it becomes a problem. I was actually for your idea until some others posted the potential down side.

I am with Chuck, Mark and Brian, I got into this hobby when I was unemployed and looking for something to keep me sane in what I thought would be a long search for employment. Had I been shuffled off to the newbie section I doubt I would have been exposed to the other more skilled builders here, some of whom have inadvertently nudged me into the world of bashing and scratching (sounds like a disease dont it?) Now I have pretty much thrown caution to the wind and am scratching my own masts, I dont think I would have ever attempted that with out looking over the shoulders of the more experienced and the guidance and input of those who stop in to say hey. Are my masts 100% correct? He!! no, but I am having fun.
Ok, back to building my Cross and Trestle Trees, for the 3rd @&@%#$ TIME!! :P

I found the email receipt for my Enterprise......2009!! There have been a lot of reasons why its taken so long; health, end of a relationship, a death, start of another relationship, work. The big one for me is I cant leave well enough alone and have to keep fiddling with things. Then there is that short attention span.
As far as why others fail to finish? I suspect there are as many reasons why builds and build logs are abandoned as there are builders; time, money (tools) skills, poor instructions, overestimation of how long it will take etc etc. Keeping up a build log takes time and effort. By the time I have taken and edited pictures, written a post, edited and re-edited (Gods of Spell Check I thank you) it could be an hour or more. thats an hour that could be spent building. I imagine some decide its more effort than it is worth to them.
When it comes to helping others pick a first build all we can do is give anecdotal advice and hope they listen. When they (ME?) dont then give as much advice and encouragement as possible. I know I most likely would not continued with out all the advice and encouragement I recieve(d)

grant,
This is such a cool project. You have a talent for finding interesting and unusual projects. The knots are a nice subtle addition as is the wire brush graining. I have done this look on full size projects with a torch and brush or even sand blasting. Its cool to see how to do it at a smaller scale.

Cisco,
Well done on the hooked scarfs, the addition of the dust in the joint makes a big difference. When I cut the scarfs on my Enterprise I wish I had done something similar, other than on the transom all that hard work has disappeared.
Agreed on the use of hand tools, I love watching what others are doing with laser cutters and 3d printing, but for me I need the feel of making dust myself.

I agree with your choice of "less is more" with the nail holes. I also love the ragged edges of the board ends. So well done!!
