I also scanned with overlap making 9 layers in photoshop. It is difficult to keep the same angle on each scan so it was hard to align them at 90 degrees. I ended with only using parts which was undivided and masked the rest on each layer, it was quicker. Then I did the layout in Illustrator.
I'm not so sure that the scanner caused major distortions in this case as it is a professional copy/print machine. But I think I will check it up and do some testing/measuring 🙂

Having very limited work space i decided to scan the plans for my Sherbourne kit and make a new layout in a more manageable size (A3+). It would even be possible to strip it down to several A4. How do you people do with huge plans?
I suspect it is not legal to share the plans, else I could share it with other Sherbourners.
On a side note; while doing this, I noticed that the the plans are not exact so one should be careful taking measurements from it.

When searching for details about 18:th century naval guns i stumbled on this interesting online-book that is published on google books: Artillery: "An Illustrated History of Its Impact"
Sorry if it already has been discussed here earlier, I couldn't find anything when I searched the forum anyway.
Perhaps it is of value for someone?

Many years ago I was very fond of building model kits. Mostly plastic models but also some RC planes and boats.
My only experience from plank built boats was ”Hjejlen paddle steamer” - from Billing Boats, which I never finished due to (in my opinion) bad deck fittings etc.
Since then my mind has been occupied by computer graphics and games so there is a 25 year gap until now.
I guess my 50’years crisis made me rediscover this hobby 😉 so now I have ordered the Caldercraft ”Sherbourne” kit for starters. I hope I will finnish it, at least I am much better of now, when I can take part of the vast knowledge this forum offers.
Best regards

I did just that and as you said, the smoke ended. It must be some kind of coating - perhaps oil?
