Thanks Guys for your very kind comments and remarks, also for the likes.
Frank, to answer your question mate, I mark the centre section and reduce the yards to their thickness outside of these marks, I then just place the yard in a vice and file/sand one side flat, I then turn through 90 degrees and repeat until all four sides are done, I then repeat the process on the quarter turn then turn that through 90 degrees, no measurements, it's all done by eye. Simpler the better for me I'm afraid.
Augie, Good job we have to put rope coils around the belaying points, covers a multitude of sins, and your right about the language, they didn't teach me that in school.
Grant, I cant promise anything mate, I think I must be the clumsiest guy on the forum.
Sjors, Yes I'm still modelling all be it very slowly, it's alright for you young whipper snappers to race ahead but us senior citizens need time
Mark, A good idea mate, but from now on if it cant be tied off it don't get fitted, if I have bits of white paper hanging I know for sure I'm gonna bounced by some cotton cannon balls, no names you understand. :D
Nils, You flatter me mate, but please don't look too closely
OK, it's now time to get back into the loft and start turning out the Fore and Sprit yards.
Thanks again and be good.

My boatyard has completed 2nd layer planking(1mm) down to the wales - both sides.
Picture - close up of the Starboard Bow is before a slight sand.
Picture - Starboard side after I lightly sanded the planking. Came up pretty good I thought considering. Didn't pay any attention to position of light or dark planks, random as they came out of the stock.
I did physically break each plank run at least once(1), and other breaks I will score the plank to indicate a join. Hope that is sufficient to indicate the joints. Joints bit add hock > at the start went a bit haywire, then started a 4 way pattern.
Next task is to add the wales !
1 x 1.5mm thick plank(thickstuff above the wales) then a series of 2mm to make up a 12mm wide band for the wales.
So this will provide a 2 steps on the top of the wale and 2mm to 1mm step below.
I've decided my boatyard will follow the AOTS by Marquardt as close as it can.

A couple of members have asked whether this is my first wooden ship build. Honestly it is. However, I am a design draftsman, attention to detail is part of my trade. I also spent nearly 30 years sailing on many types of sailing vessels, fixing and modifying many of them. I have also completely rebuilt our family house - and yes it is out of timber. See where I get it from... !!
Hi Pat,
Yes I plan to add the tree nails and pins - good idea me think, all to lock in the 2nd plank layer to substrata. Have been reading up on how it make them tree nails, and install(wow something to test out for me - a while off to get something working).
Thanks for the tip on the capping strips, I plan to construct new channels as the kit ones have too many holes along the length and from ply ? I prefer to us solid timber for these. or I could glue on a slightly thicker capping strip around the edges ? fake it ? something to mull over.
Back to planking ! slow going down to the Wales. I think I should of started from the wales and went upwards. !

Thanks again John, Vivian, Michael, John and Greg - your comments are always appreciated.
Bridle Port
Looking through the above pics I realized I'd forgotten to mention the Bridle Port. This port is the foremost one, and is quite a bit different to the gunports. It's main function was to assist in attaching the tackle to the anchor when it broke the water so it could be stowed. An ancillary function was to provide ventilation below the foredeck which houses the galley, the manger and in some ships was used as a recovery area for sick or injured crew.
Unlike the gunports the bridle port is hinged horizontally. It's construction was otherwise similar to the gunport :

Time for another update. I started working on the center house. Once more I cut out the panels and applied the extra panels.
I also cut out the deck and started to fit them into place.
So far so good

Hi Guys
I cant believe my last post was on the 26th June, jeez time flies.
I have been working on rigging the Mizzen Gaff and Boom, making, fitting and rigging the Mizzen Mast. I have gone as far as I can at the moment so now am starting on the Main Mast Yards and rigging.
My one gripe is the quality of my 0.75mm Natural Rope supplied with the kit, it's not just hairy but it has bits sticking out of it's entire length, applying wax does the trick for a short time then when the rope is passed through a block it's back to normal. The only thing I can do now is replace it, I'll do that whilst making the Main Yards.
Before I go any further I will apologize for not posting progress pics earlier but I sort of got carried away, one moment it seems not enough to post and the next it's done.
OK enough yak, here are some progress pics.
The Mizzen Gaff and Boom.
The Mizzen Mast Yards and Rigging
The Braces are still to be rigged but that's for later.
So there we have it guys, your right up to date, apologies for the quality of the pictures but in my defence I will say that I'm working with old equipment and old eyes.
Be Good

Only me,
More pics
DB 250 Wood Lathe
Circular Saw
Micro Shaper ( Router )
I also have a 4 Jaw Chuck, Drill Chuck for the DB250, 10 piece router set, Spare sanding discs and spare Jig saw blades and finally a replacement Lathe bed for the DB250 so that I can extend it's length.
Sjors is going to bring me a set of Proxxon wood chisel's when he comes over, two things to look forward to there, Anja & Sjors and chisels.
All I have to do now is to learn how to use them.

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the long delay but affairs of state have taken precedent over the build ( Admiral said so ), but I'm back into the swing of it again and have just a small update to offer.
I am currently tying off the Mizzen, Main and Fore Mast Top Shrouds, I have put the lanyards onto the Mizzen deadeyes but not as yet tied them off, the main topmast shrouds are held by their jigs and will be tied off tomorrow also the Fore Topmast shrouds will be given the treatment.
Following that will come the Futtock Staves, Ratlines, Shroud Cleats then the Topgallant Shrouds, so still a ways to go.
Anyway a few pics to show where I'm at.
Fore topmast shrouds waiting for deadeyes
Topgallant Shrouds waiting to be fitted
So there we have it, not much since my last post, I will be picking up the pace fairly soon.

Hi Guys,
Denis
I have a Samsung Digimax L60 if that means anything but to be honest I get better results from my iPhone.
To answer your questions mate, the work on the loft has largely been completed although there is always little bits and pieces that need doing, it's not pretty but it's functional, I have lighting, mains power, and ventilation but I still have open beams, rough concrete block walls and cobwebs, thousands of cobwebs.
Anja and Sjors are definitely visiting very soon, in fact they arrive here on the 27th of this month, I'll pick them up from the port at 06:45 for a 2 week stay. First week we are going of to the Lake District and then it's back home for the second week, we will be celebrating Sjors 65th birthday and my Admirals and my 40th wedding anniversary. You better believe there will be pictures, lots of pictures, you never know I may even be in some of them, now that really is something to look forward to.
As far as the Aggie is concerned I'm just getting back into the swing of this after the refurbs, I am going to post an update with this and so I'll go into what I have done since getting back into it.
All the ratlines are now complete, the Mizzen, Main and Fore Mast Topgallant Shrouds are fitted and tied off, Shroud cleats are all fitted, Bowsprit Shrouds have the deadeyes tied and have been tied off and the Bowsprit Bobstays are all tied off and finally the Figurehead has been fixed on.
The ratlines gave me the biggest headache, I had the ship on a very low stool and I was still working at shoulder height, arms felt like lead by the time I was finished for each day, because of this they took longer than I would have liked.
Another part that I found awkward was tying off the Topgallant Shrouds to the platform deadeyes, whilst In the process of doing them I bashed the Mizzen Topgallant on one of my shelves which didn't do it a lot of good but I was able to repair the damage thankfully.
So some pictures of where I'm at.
First off the ratlines and topgallant shrouds
Next up Figurehead, Bowsprit Shrouds and Bowsprit Bobstays
So there we have it, your as up to date as I am.
My next task will be the Topmast Stays and the Topgallant Stays, I still have to do the backstays but I'm leaving them as long as possible so I have more access inside, at least that's the theory.

Hi Guys,
It's update time again.
Been fairly busy on the rigging and it's not been without it's problems, which is to be expected.
Apart from the Back Stays, Breast ropes and the Jibboom Guy Pendants the standing rigging is done, I want to try and keep the Back Stays and Breast Ropes off for as long as possible to allow easier access inside for the running rigging.
Following AEW's (Arthur) enquiry regarding the Mizzen and Main Topmast and Royal anchor points I decided to make a few changes, I undid the fixings and replaced them with block and tackle, I used hooks on the eyebolts with a single 3mm block with tail rope attached, the running end had a 3mm double block tied on, the tackle was tied off between the lower block and hook, it's much better, thanks Arthur.
Bowsprit is fitted along with the corresponding ropes, Boomkins are also on with brackets scratch built and fitted.
I'm going to get some photography lessens when you know who arrives so you'll have to put up with my efforts for now, sorry.
Before the change ( Topmasts & Royal Stays ) Half way through
The end result, better I think
So that's it for now.
Be Good
