jct got a reaction from Jack12477 in Clotilda by popeye the sailor - Steingraeber - 1:60 scale - slave ship - modified Agilis kit
That kit planking is old oak...I had some luck starting with 80 and working up to 300 for the deck on mine, but it was a pita...yur deck looks real good, gonna leave it natural I assume

Here are the pics of the sticks I promised earlier...main boom
fore and main gaff
jib boomcont, dolphin strikecont, beesdone
mast tops, decided to use deadeyes as opposed to just lashings
added mast rings and boom rests, these are just strips of card stock glued up and dyed and painted.
mounted the furniture
and added some bolts and rings for the fore stays. and that's it for now. just trying to get as much done as I can before I step the masts as it's easier then working in the air, so to speak

Hey all thx for the likes and comments...the channels and chainplates are done, my original plan to use the spun copper was a complete FAIL, the stuff would not keep a bend for nothing so I reverted to solid copper
wrapped the deadeyes
formed the lower sections
and blackened everything, used Jax for this
and finally mounted
also got the masts, yards and booms prepped and ready, no pics yet maybe later today of not tomorrow for sure

Decided to break out the rope walk and spin up some shroud lines and anchor rope
these will be the upper shroud lines
anchor line
the upper copper lines will serve as chain plates to attach the lower deadeyes to the channels, once they're blackened that is, they are copper wire spun up on the walk
finished out the anchors
nd made up some mast rings
test fitting the bow sprint cap
Thanks for the likes thats all for today

hi J........yea small problem.....got it sorted out. I worked on her for a while, but I kinda got ahead of myself with the transom........boarded it up already. now planking the counter is going to be a lot harder, unless I come up with an idea around it. I got the fore deck figured out on the Clotilda. now to finish gluing it in place and plank it. yours is coming along nicely

I chased tose for awhile as well...even had some pieces fall apart that were fine when first cut, untrustworthy material

Named Barbara III for President George Bush's wife. President Bush was shot down twice over the Pacific, this was his 3rd and final plane of the war.

Thanks Kevin.
These photos give some idea of the size of the stars and bars. Can you spot the touch ups I had to do on the wing and fuselage insignia's? The one on the wing had the largest boo boo to fix. A large chunk of it would not release from the decal backing paper and tore away from the rest of the decal.

Masked, painted and mounted the canopy today. A good 4-5 hours required, rather tedious. The pre cut masks make a world of difference. The job would have been much more difficult and time consuming without them on this model.

Got a little more done on Jumbo the Clipper today...
Got all but the number two bulkhead secured, and test fit the deck plate
Number two will have to be massaged into place as it does not align with the keel ledge or the slots in the deck plate
everything else seems acceptable (just FAT) , will need a little tweaking, but should not be a big deal
I have come across a few issues though
You'll notice in the pick above there are a couple extra slots in the deck plate with nothing in them...and there is nothing in the kit or mentioned in the instructions about them...that has me scratching my head. Maybe the stamping was used for multiple kits?
you can see in the pic above there is a pretty good drawing of how the stern supports should go...
but you can see that the provided parts are a bit off...replacing 13 with longer pieces won't be a problem, lots of stuff in the spares box, but you can see they will interfere with the intended rudder location
Seems scratching and modification will be in order...not a prob, just thought I'd be a little deeper into the build before it was required, oh well let the fun commence

A bit of an update...started mounting the bulkheads. started by finding and marking the center of each
While preparing the main backbone/keel i noticed a warp at the stern, so I built up some clamp faces with the venerable legos and clamped it straight prior to gluing in the number 9 bulkhead, hoping it holds square
then is just trial fit and glue and clamp square one bulkhead at a time..kinda like watching paint dry...
Well that's it for today, gonna watch 500 qualifying latter
