Hi All~ Happy New Year! I recently started working on my first scratch build project, Golden Hind. I will be using Aeropiccola plans as basis, but I will refer to several other blueprints and build logs as well. If the end product is satisfactory, I plan to make about 4 more scratch built Golden Hinds to give out to my close friends as gifts. This one is a prototype build that I will give to my daughter as present when finished - correction on 22 March 2023 : major deviation from original plan...this prototype will also be given out as present to one of my dear friend/mentor. I am planning to finish GH2 as well and give him the choice between GH1 and GH2. Although the delivery may be quite delayed as he is residing in NY and Hawaii. He may be getting a place in Seoul in the future, at which point I will be able to deliver him either GH1 or GH2. The basic wood I will be using for most of bulkheads and 1st planking will be processed from cypress wood logs that were lying around at home. And since I have no table saw (not easy to use in an apartment in Korea anyway), I sawed manually most of the wood panels and strip woods. For strips, I devised a small home made drill saw(?) and used them to make most of the strip materials . I couldn't find a woodworking shop nearby that can cut thick logs into thin panels. So I'll just apply this brute method this time, but I'll have to find a woodworking shop for my next projects and make these panels and wood strips in an easier manner. I probably need to search outside Seoul for this task. Below are the pictures of manual sawing and the wood panel obtained at the end. Cypress logs were cut into 7 mm thick pieces. It's a lot of exercise!

Attempting to do photographs with dark background. The last 3 photos are taken by my daughter with her iPhone - I think they are better than my pictures!

Hi All, Finally finished my work on HMS Endeavor and ready to go to my sister's house this weekend! The work took a bit more than 1 year - much shorter than I expected (COVID-19 definitely having an impact here). Thank you all for your encouragement and guidance!! The final work : the name tag.

Hi Dave, Thanks very much for your kind words! I think it took me just little bit more than 1 year (say 1.2 years) - quite fast due to the COVID-19 situation. Corel kit does not come with any sails, nor does Corel provide any plans for sheets. The sails are made from fabric I purchased seperately - pretty much the thinnest fabric that can be worked on by a sewing machine. I bench-marked the Artesania Latina sail plans for the work on sheets. My next project is scratch built Golden Hind which I will be able to post from the beginning this time. Anyway, all the best with you current build!! I will be following your current build.

Hi All, All rigging are finished and life boat mounted to the main deck. I think in about 2 weeks the ship will be finished. I did not like the work on flags and will probably redo them later. Life boat installment into the main deck.

Stay sails all finished and just couple of rigging work left to do after life boat is secured to the main deck and some other tidying up work are finished. Once again, brought the ship out to a relatively brighter area of the house for some photos.

Hi All, I have been working on stay sails in tandem with the life boat. Below are some pictures of these works. Works on flying jib sail and jib sail.
