Richard, welcome aboard. I hope you're enjoying a well-deserved retirement. I think it might be hard to ID your yacht, but if anyone can do it, the folks here can.
Can you post a photo?

I agree to assign cannon ports according to the Chapman plan..
The last rope of the driver is in place, so there is no longer just the lantern, the boat name and the glass cabinet..

Stevinne reacted to EJ_L in Roter Lowe by Stevinne - Mamoli - 1:55 - Dutch-built Galleon
Planking is looking nice! Slow and steady is producing a nice hull.
Filler blocks are a must do step for me on any P.O.B. build. The spacing between the bulkheads especially at the bow is just too great to support the planks properly without fillers. They are a life saver!

It starts to look nice.
Filler blocks are indeed handy to work with.

Hi, this is nice work indeed, will you cover stern on the second planking?

Stevinne got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in Roter Lowe by Stevinne - Mamoli - 1:55 - Dutch-built Galleon
It has been slow but steady work on the hull over the summer. Usually two or four planks per weekend, but I have finally completed the first layer of the lower hull. If anyone is ever building this kit, please take my advice and install balsa bow fillers between the frames. I'd thought about it, decided I didn't need them, and started regretting it almost immediately. This was my first galleon-type ship, and it is now my opinion that on these craft, bow fillers are a must.
Sir Francis Drake, who has been watching my work said "I told you so."
I have to say the wood was nice to work with.
I need to do some stealers around the stern and then I will plank the deck and install the cabin facings before finishing the first layer of bow planking.

Stevinne got a reaction from geoff in Hello i'm new here and to ship building
Welcome Derek. You'll find this is a great place to learn about ship building with a very supportive community always willing to help out. Good luck with the build. For your second build, I'd recommend something that is double planked - which is a lot more forgiving than a single-plank project.

Stevinne got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in V108 by catopower - Digital Navy - 1/200 Scale - CARD - Torpedo Boat - MSW Tutorial Build
I'm going to watch this with interest. I built a 1/400 plastic model from Mirage of this type torpedo boat. With the dedicated photoetch set it turned into a very nice, small model. I'm interested in card modeling, but have no idea how to do it. So teach on!

Stevinne got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in Roter Lowe by Stevinne - Mamoli - 1:55 - Dutch-built Galleon
So the build begins. This is the first time I've had to deal with a multi-part main frame. A little glue and some weights should do the trick.
Had some help from my second mate tonight. A thunder storm was rumbling through, and she felt it important to be as close as possible to guard my feet.

Completed the first layer of planking around the gunport frames and added some additional planks. Also picked up a crewmember, courtesy of my printer. He's a little thin, but that's what happens when you live on naval rations.

Looking good. Be careful of the white metal gunport frames as they stick out alot. I spent forever sanding them down to accept the second planking. on my Mamoli build.

Hi, I am building the Mamoli Surprise and did away with the white metal frames. The extra boxing wasn't fun but happier with the end result. Looking forward to your build.

Stevinne reacted to Jean-Pierre in Roter Lowe by Stevinne - Mamoli - 1:55 - Dutch-built Galleon
Nice and unusual choice of model. This ship surely looks quite detailed and will be impressive. About the cannons, I had the same problem when I built the plastic Soleil Royal, and I had to close a few gunlids because their cannon had gone adrift. In this case I would certainly wrap a thin blackened metal thread around the gun, pass the ends through the bottom of the carriage, through the deck and fix it underneath. Could easily be made invisible. Otherwise, you could put the guns on their carriage only when rigging is completed.
Oh, just a little detail: the name Roter Löwe is German, so I suppose the ship is from one of the German states, and not Dutch (from the Netherlands)
I look forward to your progress: happy modelling.

This is not really a build log as I have my Xebec completed waiting for its display case. These pics are pretty much the completed model !
