" Bucket and Chuck it!" Harvey Golden verified what I thought. Slocum just used a bucket and threw the stuff overboard. I built a bucket with a rope so the bucket could be washed after use. I also shortened Slocum's dingy since the one I originally built was too long. It's funny since that's what Slocum did to his original dingy when he realized it was too long to store on deck. He cut it in half! -

That’s exactly what I thought so I just added a bucket to Slocum’s cabin. Thanks for your input. -

she asked a good question. The answer is I had to be crazy to start this project. It’s been much more difficult than I imagined. I want viewers to see just how Slocum existed for over three years. A 36 foot boat!!! I’m on the home stretch now. Good luck with your build. I’ll follow you Rich -

The quick answer is....you have to be a little crazy to attempt what I'm doing. It's been much harder than a originally envisioned. I'm on the homestretch now, though. I wanted viewers to see exactly how Slocum existed for over three years on a 36 foot boat. -

Does anyone know where Slocum's head (toilet) was located on the Spray? -

Slocum's books are now on his shelf, a light to read by at night, bedding in place, rifle hung up, sails in the sail locker, chain in the chain locker and I'm still building his small boat. -

I've re-rigged the anchor and winch to make it more realistic I'm also startin Slocum's dingy by pre-shaping the sides to fir the bottom. I'm dry fitting his pot bellied stove -

I've installed and rigged the anchor and modified the wheel to be at the same angle as the rudder post. I was a few degrees off the first time -

Thanks! It's a bit of a struggle since having no decent detailed plans has me constantly searching the internet looking at models and real time pics so I get The Spray as close to what Joshua Slocum sailed in. -
She's a real beauty! You can be proud of this build. Nice job.

When we still had our farm we had a cat that looked just like yours....we just called him Kitty and he lived in our barn but would eat with the family and play with our kids and even the dog. So I know just how much you miss him. We had Kitty 18years!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
