The Sailor reacted to Beef Wellington in HMS Jason by Beef Wellington - Caldercraft - 1:64 - Artois-class frigate modified from HMS Diana 1794
Small progress, I've at least committed to the approach I'll take on the deck planking. Nothing too exciting, but I will install a margin plank which I haven't done before, even though this will barely (if at all) be seen. I've decided to try planking off the ship to make this a little easier. Worst case, it will be good practice for the quarterdeck and forecastle, but I do hope to leave the option open to leave some of the fo'csle gratings off so a little more can be seen. I've used the placement of the deck beams per AOTS to determine where the planks terminate. The margin plank curve was estimated from laying a plank along the interior bulwark and tracing the shape on the false deck.
Still early days, but no major hiccups yet...

The Sailor got a reaction from pete48 in VOLVO OCEAN RACE Open 70 By Pete48 - FINISHED - Scale : 1/4" = 1' - 0"
Hi Pete. For me it's always very interesting following the origination process of a modern sailing boat.
To quote our colleague Wacko Wolf: Keep the pictures coming.

Today , I did get the Keel faired and 2 base coats of the flat black ,( 2 more coats and the keel will be ready for installation) I also added the logo on the Companionway hatch , I then dry fit the keel ( fits perfect ) Next will be the rudder blades and main sheet traveler, Here are the results

I finally was able to get some work done on the Volvo today. I started by closing in the cabin top and companionway , I then finished up the steering wheel for the Starboard side steering station ( and pinted it to match the Port side ). I then varnished over the logos , and painted the cabin top red and companionway white ( I will be putting a logo over the companionway entrance ) Here are the results

The Sailor reacted to DaveRow in HMB Endeavour by DaveRow - FINISHED - Corel - Scale 1:60 - First Build Kit
Port and Starboard Wales finally on.
Took me while to decide how to make up the width with the timbers from the kit.
The upper hull planking is 1.0mm thick.
The wales: decided on a 1.5mm top plank, then 5 planks 2mm thick. So the wales ended up with 2 x 0.5mm steps over the top edges.
I decided to blacken the edges of the top and bottom planks with the aim to give a sharp edge(hopefully not to cut in later on) to the change in colour/clear.
Might do some planks across the stern next, before talking the lower hull planking.
Slow going
Cheers shipmates
Dave

The Sailor got a reaction from Barbossa in Mercury by The Sailor - Amati/Victory Models - 1:64 - Russian 20 gun brig
A minor update on the pinnace. After sanding and filling the boat is now prepared for the second planking.
Here and there the planking may be thin like a human hair.
