Hey all! I´ve been busy the last week but I have done some work on the cannons and hatches. A lot of painting but I enjoy it and find it relaxing. Before continuing on the side ports, I did the ones at the stern.

Doing the guns in repeatable mode saves some time, once the method is on track...
My work desk is quite a mess, since I have my own room and do`nt have to clean up during the day, and I still have 4 more to do.

Am thinking of adding small wooden splints to the axis close to the wheels, but shall do that as last Action

Trial #1, small wire Pins secure wheels on axis

Trial #2, small wooden splints hold back the wheels (I prefer this Version)

have 10 done so far, 4 more to go..

    Hi everyone!

After finishing cannons and other deck object’s my purpose was to begin the installation of deadeyes over the chainboards.

To accomplish this I realized that in first place  was necessary to display the masts in a preliminary way to determine the angle of the different shrouds. In the process I decide to shape the upper square portion of the foremast and mainmast outright.  To achieve this I used my homemade Dremel base as shown in the picture.

I have decided to add a stern lantern since I have never seen a ship of this era without one.I robbed a lantern from an old model of a dutch ship & modified it slightly. It had some red plastic inserts to represent glass so I removed them & made new inserts out of some clear acetate I had left over from my CC Victory. The separate panes were simulated with some fiberglass screen repair material.

Another small update.Got the rest of the gunport lids installed.Darkened the shiny brass cannons with a thinned black wash - didn`t want to blacken them as I`m pretty sure they were made of bronze. The wash seems to have given them a somewhat rustic look.

Finally able to do some light work on my ship. Slowly working on the masts - foremast finished. Not perfect but neither is the rest of the build.Had to make new mast caps as the kit ones were ugly plywood & didn`t show the metal bands holding the upper sections to the caps. The dowels for the masts are walnut so they are probably a little darker than they should be.Got some of Chuck`s blocks - super nice.

The gun port liners are almost done, but to break up the monotony I started working on the decorative frames for the upper gun ports. The starboard side is finished and I'm almost finished the port side.

Ok update time After sorting the remaining deck supports I preceeded to mark the subdeck out on a piece of 1/16th ply. After cutting out,I began to establish the deck beam positions in order to mark where plank butts treenails etc would be.Refering to 'Restoration Warship',Richard Ensor states that common practice was to have one deck beam central to each gunport and one inbetween.I drew out the gunport positions of the gundeck and marked the beams then marked the other beams halfway inbetween. This design is completely different to that portrayed on the plans, sorry Euromodels but the internal structure just doesn't ring true.Yes I am still working to the plans for the internal layout, just not the beam placement.Another issue came to light in the fact that the long grating and main mast resulted in 5 consecutive beams being split. There is no way this would happen,so I have shortened the gratings to allow two beams to run right through, hence the deck infill at each end. After one or two trial runs and a little trimming, making sure nothing was tight on the pear frames, the deck was glued in place.I did remove the temporary ties across the frame tops to allow this and the deck had to be bent ALOT to get it to 'spring' in.There is still lots of shaping to do to the lower hull especially the stern which is simply a block at the moment.Thorough checks on symmetry will be carried out as the work progresses.

    Kind Regards

    Nigel

    Hola a todos;

I just finished the stern lantern.  As I already mention, the plastic piece that simulates glass did not fit, I need to make a new one and also added and upper and lower piece to accommodate vertical “ribs”.

Here you can see the finished lantern in position.

I'm back!! Finally!! The reason for this long absence is that my dad was diagnosed with a cancer relapse and has been in hospital for nearly 1 month plus.. So, my life was like work and go hospital everyday. Anyway, he's turning a lot better now and I can have more spare time for myself already One funny thing was that, Ian did message me in person during the MH370 incident worrying that I might be on that mysterious flight and causing this long absence (Anyway, Ian.. Thanks for your concern )

Another news is that I've just resigned from my job, and that will make me have more time on my ship recently BUT I'll have no laptop 'cause I was using my company's laptop all the while for both my personal and office stuffs =.=" gonna buy a new one this weekend. I'll need to return it to the company tmr.. so, I'll post the current look of my ship first now and then the progress after I got my new lappy..

It's a bigger leap compared to the last update since there were some progress that I haven't updated here... However, the Unicorn now is just so my version..

I added doors under the forecastle to cover the ugly interior.. I'm not sure whether any ship is built with this design? That the stove is inside the 'cabin' or very close to the manger? If so, then I can decide the location of my vent better.. hope anyone can help here

Belfry is also added by referring to Pegasus.. but I think I still missed out 2 cleats on the sides of the bell

    The bitt
Also, I've changed the rail to straight down instead of using round ones as instructed in the booklet. This might match my color scheme better

The bow rails and cat heads, which I ald done before CNY but haven't updated here. The one at the starboard side snapped off from position when I show my ship to my little cousin during CNY @.@ Anyway, the rails part is not done yet. I'm hoping to add a thicker rail or a jawed one on top of the others..

    Thanks for viewing

Today I could make a Little Progress, and started to put some profiled brass on to the bow eking rails, because I had no luck in Scratching or carving decors into it. I think I`ll do this with the main rails as well and then taper the front wooden portions a bit.

One Thing I never recocnized up to now was the tricky tackle of the guns, it requires quite some space to get all the blocks in Arrangement lengthwise. A Little model was made to do some Trials. This is only for checking dimensions

I still had some oak Planks 1 x 5 mm and used These for the inner bulwark. After Fixing These permanently the gunports had to be cut away.... I wish I had`nt taken oak, ist too brittle and started breaking in many places.

    Hi all,

Folowing the idea of Matti about putting bars on the capstan I made the same.  His sugestion about making a little shorter the capstan and with fewer holes was also good but I already made it.

    Hi guys,

although according to Matti the rudder blade was held out with rope I decided to put instead a chain as is in the Corel kit because I think it looks better:

By other hand, I also finished the cannons and carriages as you can see in the next pictures:

To fit the cannons that are at the stern portion of the ship I had to modify the carriages to raise them a little. The whitish portions are the added pieces.

    Saludos, Karl
