    A lovely build, especially given how tiny the kit was! In no means meant to be a criticism, (especially as I'm certain I could in no way match your skill in making this model), but there's a slight inaccuracy right at the stem of the model. Even many illustrators get this wrong, but all RN destroyers always had a large fairlead called the "bull ring" right at the extreme forward end of the forecastle deck, atop the stem. The ensign staff was actually mounted on top of the bull ring, and the forward end of the deck railings were also attached to it, angling down since the bull ring was not as high as the railings. If you look up images of HMCS HAIDA preserved in Hamilton, Canada, you can see she has the exact same feature that would have been found in all the Hunts. It's one of those things that's not at first obvious, but once you see it, you cannot help noticing its lack in the future.

    This is an outstanding build Gonzo! I've got an old Tamiya POW that I'm currently converting into DOY for a chum, whose dad worked at John Brown where the DOY was built. I'm using your model heavily as a guide for my own build. You might be interested to know that the "cap/cover/lid things" were in fact called "Bonnets", and the "anchor chain restraining shackles" were Blake Slips. Each anchor cable would have had two, though one of each pair would have also had a turnbuckle to pull the anchor in tight to the hawse pipe and was called the Screw (or Bottle) Slip. When the ship was standing by to drop a hook, the latter was removed so that the anchor was being held up only by the braked capstan and the other Blake slip - riding on "Brakes and Blakes" as they would have said. The brake on the capstan would be released and when the time came to drop the anchor a seaman would hit the Blake Slip with a mallet, releasing the anchor to run out under its own weight. The fact that you identified these and added them to your model shows an exceptional eye to detail. As well as the Bonnets, which most would not have spotted. It's little details like these that add excellence to a build.

    Hi Chris SC - that is a fantastic build of the QUEEN ELIZABETH. I'm just starting my own and wanted to ask about your fore and aft mast stays and ratlines. Did you make them yourself? Or were you able to find them pre-made, perhaps in photo etch? Many thanks! Nick
