Hi Mark I got interested in sailing when I attended the Univ of Maryland dental school in Baltimore. After graduating I used to race an Olympic 470 #984. As I aged in life I sailed and owned a Hunter and later a Catalina. I miss sailing. By the way look at MeCray. His other prints are just as beautiful and impressive. Too bad he passed in 2017. IMG_2743.mov IMG_2743.mov Hi Mark I noticed in your log introduction you mentioned Endeavour’s Americas Cup Race against Rainbow ( cup defender ). One of my addictions is collecting Nautical Art especially Americas Cup. Have you ever seen prints by John MeCray. He is a world famous Americas Cup artist. His paintings bring life to the subject. If you get a chance you might want to look him up and his paintings. His studio was in Jamestown Rhode Island. I met him in the 70’s when he had just finished painting Rainbow .That’s when I started collecting his art. As I mentioned look him up and enjoy! Here’s his artist proof.

Almost ready to go crabbing all I need now is the mast sails tiller center board and rudder.

On to finish and mount the paddle.

I wanted to weather the trap to have the appearance of a millennium under the sea. To achieve the effect I wanted I painted the dry trap with Tamiya Buff color #XF-57. After I applied the paint I let it set for 5 minutes but not to dry. Then I lightly sanded it with 120 grit sandpaper. I was very happy with the results . I then turned my attention to finish the crab float which I attached to the trap.

Today I finished and weathered the crab trap. I initially painted it dark brown and set it aside for a day to dry while I worked on the paddle and the trap float. The dark brown was was wood grain by Vallejo #70828.

Finished Paddle All I have to do is find a place on the bulwarks to mount it.

Not much time to work on my model ship today but I did manage to make an emergency paddle for times of no wind or to move to the crab traps. I will post the finished paddle tomorrow and hopefully the crab trap float. As always Best RVB

Need to build a crab trap buoy for the trap tomorrow. We shall see how it turns out.

Can’t have a crab boat without a crab trap. To solve the problem today I built one to 1/20 scale. Since I am building the ship to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the USA I am debating upgrading the sails to Ripstock Nylon. Basically i am building a vintage model ship to modern standards (but I am definitely having a great time). Best RVB

I am in the same state. Retired and and have the Picket #1 waiting to start as soon as i finish my PATRIOTIC CHESAPEAKE BAY CRABBING SKIFf. I will start a build log when I do.
