I've successfully used burning on copper wire - followed by a wiped with a rag to remove the residue - but you'd need to be careful of the heat on such fine wire.

Agree with Druxey, Michael. You're going to have to strip the top layer off anyway to get a smooth surface, so you might as well go the whole hog.

Congratulations, Pat! A beautiful model all round and a real credit to you.
Never mind the occosional scratch on the Perspex - I've seen what can happen to models in glass cases when something goes wrong - the Perspex is much safer.

Agree with Druxey, Michael. You're going to have to strip the top layer off anyway to get a smooth surface, so you might as well go the whole hog.
