albert reacted to Maury S in Anchor Hoy c. 1825 by Maury S - FINISHED - 1:48 - Harbor craft - POF
While waiting for the glue to dry on carlings I've done a few other detail items. The hatch coamings (4 sets) have been completed but not attached. The coamings surrounding the opening in the deck for the great cat may not be called "coamings" but they serve the same purpose. Keeping water from running over the deck and into the lower decks. None of these details are on the Grice drawings. Some are on Robt. Cairo's sketches, which are still speculative.

Good morning
Thank you J.P , druxey and fmartins
I use dye teak and rosewood and then linseed oil.
Such small models need to use veneer rather than slats.
Anchor made of tin
It was a small accident
Everything is ok .

Thanks everyone for all the likes and comments. I finished up the figurehead. Carved from dowel.
Example of real figurehead and my attempt.

albert reacted to tlevine in HMS Atalanta 1775 by tlevine - FINISHED - 1:48 scale - from TFFM plans
It is hard to believe that it has been over a month since my last update. Work on the quarter deck beams has been progressing very slowly but I hope to have them completed within the week. The pictures were taken before any finish sanding.

Thank you fellows for your kind comments and to those who clicked the like button.
Yup, life gets in the way of pleasure but the unpleasant parts will ease off some. Still busy with domestic chores, garden mostly and haven't even touched my neighbor's chair for a few weeks.
Well, in between all the busy stuff I have been able to finish another sketch of a lion head. It's still not quite right but I'll keep massaging it some more. Right now he looks like he's yawning.
I have another one started and hopefully he looks acceptable to ise as a model. then i need to draw one up in profile, which is more important for the carving.
Here is pic, just so all yuns know I'm still alive a kicking
Cheers,

albert reacted to Bluto 1790 in HMS Leopard 1790 by Bluto - FINISHED - 1:80 - 50 gun ship - PoB
Gunport lid hinges and opening/holding lines fitted on both sides as well as starboard mizzen channel >>>
That mizzen channel awaits its deadeyes and chainplates.
While it took about 2 minutes to make this posting, doing these hinges, lines and that one channel took the best part of 3 weeks.

albert reacted to tlevine in HMS Atalanta 1775 by tlevine - FINISHED - 1:48 scale - from TFFM plans
I made a companion for the opening in front of the mizzen mast. The walls were made in a laminated fashion using two layers of castello and mica for the glazing. In order to provide some contrast, the roof is pau marfin. The dark line in the aft portion of the hatch is figuring in the wood. Nothing will be glued in place until after the deck has been installed.
I have partially planked the quarter deck in the same fashion as the forecastle deck (a center plank flanked by two rows of decking). These planks taper from fore to aft.

I decided to build a tow to my guns. It helps me with this colleague Mirek (http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/user/875-mirek/). It has a CNC milling machine.
