    Painting the bottom ....
Hull prepped.a few irregularities in the planking showing a working  boat. Hull colour Vallejo Black-grey

I'm hoping to show her as a working boat so I used a Chocolate brown to represent the tar anti fouling.

To take away the monochrome colour I used Oil dots. Grey, white, yellow ochre and raw umber. Blended and washed out with white spirit.
(I did use smaller dots the next time)

I feel I achieved the look I was after

    A nice contrast

I hope you like it. Thanks for stopping by

There'll be an update in the next days, but in the meantime, here are some pictures of the Indy figurehead and also 1:64 figures of both Pellew and Hornblower. Both of the figures will be on the website in the next days, but Pellew will also be included with HMS Indefatigable when the kit is released.

Ouch, but you are not alone.  I know I have had problems with decal when going to far.  Sometime it is difficult to know when to stop playing with them, until it is too late.

Fingers crossed the dry transfers fix you problem

Sewing sails sounds too hard!  I think I will stick to the pre made beauties from Mr Watton.

It's looking good Jonathan, I used Microset and Microsol on the decals to help position them. Can't remember which one does what at the moment due to the fact that I am on holiday and my brain is in full relax mode. Decals are best applied onto a gloss finish which helps stop the "silvering" where the carrier film is visible. Good luck with the sails.

    Bit of a snag.

I remember building a Revell USS Missouri when I was but a wee lad of five way back in nineteen hundred aught 54. I don't recall having problems with the decals (though I do remember a few of the 5" guns annoyingly sticking to my fingers because of the globs of glue). Nor do I recall problems with the decals on the B-29 Superfortress I built around the same time. But when I went to apply the Nisha decal in the stern, I screwed it up when I decided it would be a Good Thing to rub the decal One Last Time to get it really nice and flat.

So I ordered some dry transfer lettering.

Meanwhile, I resumed work on my Bounty Launch model. Today I got to the part where I need to make the sails.

Me: "I need to sew some sails for my ship model, so I was wondering if you could show me how to work your sewing machine, at your convenience." The at your convenience was a nice touch, I thought.
    Admiral: The Look.

So I ordered a super-basic sewing machine from Amazon for $38 that a) might work and b) last long enough to put some stitches into some cotton fabric.

The lettering can't arrive soon enough.

Fit out of the deck in now well under way.  The gypsy and main winches are now in place with both hatches fitted.  I decided to continue with the dark colour scheme, it contrasts well with the lighter deck. The windlasses are dark green to match the bulwarks. I am guessing that gloss paint would have been standard, however I much prefer flat colours.

Looks as if the winches are misaligned but they look fine  when I look straight on from the bows - think it must be the angle of from which the picture is taken.

Nearly snapped the fair leading post with too much pressure in trying to get it seated properly.  Just got away with it!

I tried to add a bit of depth to the grab ropes on the hatches rather than flat to the hatch.

The deck house, steam winch and various other bits of deck furniture have been sprayed with first coat, or primed if metal. So while the paint dries I can update the log.

Thank goodness for the spare door hinges in the kit.  Cut out 4 pieces and place them on the pear sheet that contains the deck house doors.  Glued the first hinge on, then stupidly lifted the sheet to turn it round and tipped the three other hinges on the floor.  Luckily the carpet monster only ate one of the three, as when I went to lift up a replacement it pinged off into the ether!

Quick update, I now have Saucy jack sail sets in stock (the premium ones), they finally arrived.

Also had another 20 sets each for Nisha and Erycina, with ranger sets being produced now. Also being produced is a small quantity of premium Alert sail sets (only 8 sets due to high cost). I will have one set available soon, the one shown in the pics. Alert sets will be £120 per set, but they are very expensive and very time consuming to produce, with the bolt ropes being hand sewn.

Just had the first render of the 3-d file of the new figure for my approval. This is Pellew, Hornblower is being worked on now, so next week, I will have the two new figures and the Indy figurehead. This will eventually be looking out from the poop on Jim's model!

ETA - Pellew is modelled in a captain's outfit, as I will be developing Indy as she most likely appeared between 1795-98ish

I will most likely do a 48th and 96th version for this and Hornblower/tall skinny lieutenant...

Thanks all for the painting advice and motivating me not to be lazy! I resprayed both sides, and while it is not perfect, I think it came out pretty well. I did some how miss one little section in the stern which naturally I didn't notice until the tape was off!
I like the really like the colors, but after I use up the rattle cans, I think I am going to be more proactive in finding paints and just use my airbrush. The Chaos Black goes on really easy but seems to chip just as easily and I don't know what good forsaken liquid that initially came out of the Plastikote but I am pretty sure the box I was spraying it in is a superfund site now.

    Lessons Learned
    1) Don't be too eager to rip off the tape
    2) Cover any holes in the bulwarks (there is a little tiny black spot on the inside bulwark where paint came through the hole for the anchor chain)
    3) Don't remove all the tiny photo-etched parts before painting them
    3) Get a positive pressure hazmat suite when using Plastikote for painting or chemical warfare.

    Questions:
    1) Is there any surface coat that I can use to prevent the black from further chipping.
    2) Any advice on trying to either touch up or mask off the area around the chip to respray?

Moving forward, I sprayed the last of the the photo etched parts so going to be moving on to assembling the deck pieces and then onto the mast. I was able to find a 3mm stencil so going to try out that for the stern lettering  I am a bit nervous to start rigging as I can barely tie my shoelaces never mind a hitch knot, but just need to endeavor to persevere. Would not be against any sage wisdom though!

Indeed, I am adding navigation lights to my Nisha, so these are very useful, there seemed to be a variety of ways they were attached to the shrouds, from this arrangement to almost "cleat-like" fixings on the back of the navigation "box"?

Majestic, Saturn, Goliath (and more post-war razees) were old common 74s - ships of the third rate, reduced to a 4th rate frigate.
Indefatigable, Anson and Magnamine were from the Ardent and Intrepid classes - razee 64s, or the smallest of the third rate, reduced to a 4th rate frigate.

Also in the third rate were the middling and large 74s, and the 80 gun ships.

Second rates were the 90 and 98 gun ships (and from time to time, the rearmed 100 gunners, including Victory)

First rates were only those ships of 100 guns or over (in the period in which these ships were active) - Victory is not *quite* the smallest of these, but is fairly close to the smaller end, and is smaller than some of the third rate ships (similar to the French ships of the second rank) by tons and tonnage. Britannia is a bit smaller, and there are many later classes and captures - especially those of 120 guns which are considerably larger (as were the French and Spanish vessels of the first rank).

    Hi Glomar,
Really good to see you are still progressing.  I like the paint scheme.  I have never used Plastcote - although I have seen a few rants about it!
I think it is just the black that needs touched up, the bit at the waterline looks to be in the black section.  If you hand brush you will see there is a difference.

My instinct would be to re tape and spray the black , but it is your call.

    Don’t forget the bowsprit hole😉

looking forward to seeing the next pics.
