Good fix Ulises. You do wonder whether kit manufacturers build their own models sometimes!🙄

Stunning work Doris. You're going to have to replace the like button. I think it's worn out!

Ab Hoving: Thank you for your praise, I appreciate your words a lot.

Well, I have just completed the entry port on starboard. There will be added wooden stairs of course. Now I am going to continue with the same work on port.

    Hello all, mates.
More progress on the bowsprit. My God! This thing deserves a build log all on its own!!! lol

Photos are self explanatory, I think. Still, if you have any questions, by all means...shoot!!!

Thank you very much for the kind comments!
That's one of the main reasons I chose this model, "painting with wood" as someone else put so well. I'm glad the oil has deepened the colour of the wood. Personally I think that this tones down a bit the gold from the columns (and the rest of the decorations to come).
    I don't mind at all!

    Dear Amalio,
Thank you for your nice words and appreciation. I believe that in your great skills you would certainly have managed it. It's mainly about training and patience.
Your work is amazing and I admire your craftsmanship a lot.
    Best reagards,
    Doris

I have started with decoration and the completion of the entry ports. The details of the decoration in Vale's painting arequite well recognisable  - the figures on the supporting columns and the stylized fish on the roof, the rail around the entrance has a carving filling as well:

I found other information about the design of entry ports in these books:
The Construction and Fitting of the English Man of War 1650-1850 (Peter Goodwin)

    Ship Models 1650-1750 (John Franklin):

And here are almost all pieces of decoration I will use:

Soon I will post the final result.

    Have a great time,
    Doris

Beautifull ship and you did a awsome job on the planking part! Don’t mind the speed, the sharpness and cleannes of your work is only what’s important. When your model is finished,, that is what other people will notice, not the speed of the build.

Keep following along the way sir, if you don’t mind...

I am now working on the capping rails.  Fitting the main rails is quite a demanding little project.  They have to be level and accurately follow the curvature of the inner bulwark.  The rails are plywood, already shaped, and there is very little 'give' in attempting to bend them to the actual curve of the bulwark.  Fortunately the bulwarks are fairly accurate and not much adjustment is required - just a slight bend of both near the stern.  I will be away for a few days and I will leave them bent to shape, dry-fitted, and hope that at least part of the bend will remain when I return.

    This is how things look.

The eyelets shown here are pushing the rail inwards towards the edge of the bulwark.  I use balsa to cushion the clamps.

I have stolen another of Joe's ideas in using the paper clips as clamps.

The hull is now painted black.  I found that when I went to sand the paint off the nameplate letters, the 2 coats of spray enamel were too thick, and I ended up taking some paint off the background and surrounding areas.  So I repainted the nameplates with acrylic (brush), and that sanded off nicely.

It's a flat black on the hull -- the flash just makes it look a bit glossy.

    David

In today's episode of "Pimp my Ship"... OK nothing that exciting I'm afraid. But I do have the first lot of gold columns supporting the handrails done. Nice to start adding a bit of detail!  Next up I need to build a couple of the deck guns (two different sizes) as some round gun ports need to be drilled on the sides and I want to make sure I get the height right!

    As always thanks for visiting.

    Afternoon all

I've started applying a coat of Danish oil. Here's a before on one side and after on the other! 😁. Bit of a difference as you can see! I'm sure I'll get used to it.
    Before...
    and after...

Both pictures were taken in the same lighting conditions. Maybe a tad darker than I was expecting but still very pleased as to how it's slowly coming together.

    Thanks for looking

    Morning all

    I now have a table saw! 😀😁
Wow the difference. Would have taken me 30min to cut 3 or 4 handrail supports, file them.all 50 odd I needed done in 10min with a far superior finish. ,£120 very well spent!
So handrails are nearly all installed as shown below.

    And chamfered

Remaining handrails are made with golden columns. All I need to do is get rid of a few remaining superglue spots and it's time for a coat of Danish oil.
I won't do the deck yet.
    Thanks for looking.

Yikes, can't believe it's been over a year since my last update... (well actually I can... ). I've not worked on Le Mirage for quite a few months until about a month ago. Decided I should line the gun ports even though the instructions make (as far as I am aware) no mention of this. It's one of those tasks that would have been a lot easier BEFORE I put on the second planking! . I try to spend half my build time at a go doing those before doing something else far more interesting like planking the deck.

Slowly (very slowly), it's moving along. Just nice to see some progress. Here are some progress shots.

    Thanks for looking in.

I've glued on the wales and the upper boards(?) on the port side. Not having any suitable clamps I basically glued them using super glue for immediate hold on small sections and wood glue for the rest for a longer hold. Unfortunately some of the super glue has seeped out (the dark patches) . Hopefully I wont regret that when I apply the finish (planning to use danish oil at this stage). Of course if anyone has any ideas how to get rid of super glue...

I've also glue all the decks on but that was probably (another) mistake as this will make some of the deck planking and installing of some of the guns more problematic. Oh well lesson learnt for next time.

I also just realised my backdrop isnt best suited for model photography. Think I might invest in some large stiff white card which hopefully should be more suitable.

    Thanks for looking
