popeye the sailor reacted to Canute in Coca - Cola FB Freuhauf Trailer by Popeye the Sailor - AMT / Round 2 reissue - 1:25 scale
Thankfully the trailers were cleaner graffiti wise back in the 50s. Dirty for sure by maybe only some chalk marks for routing in a yard.  And you got the scale correct, Dennis. A lot of the brake plumbing isn't modeled in this scale, thankfully. Get the number of axles correctly positioned and get the landing gear type close enough.  The bodies are what we normally see. I'm looking at 24 to 32 foot trailers by Fruehauf and Trail Mobile. Mostly box bodies, but some flats and open top boxes, too.

Extra thin is 51% acetone and 49% Butyl Acetate....

Their airbrush cleaner is either 50/50 Acetone/Acetate or 49/51% depending on whose MSDS you read....

So yes, they are essentially the same material...

And since the Airbrush cleaner is 55% cheaper than the Extra Thin.... you make your decision....

The bottles of Tamiya airbrush cleaner contain the exact same active ingredient as Tamiya thin cement. The airbrush cleaner contains 240 ml while the thin cement contains 40 ml. My supplier sells the airbrush cleaner for 7.29 per bottle while thin cement sells for 4.19. You can refill your thin cement bottle over 6 times with one bottle of airbrush cleaner. It all does the same thing only at a fraction of the cost. Just thought you might want to know how to save a few bucks.

Hey, don't be sorry. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and I make no pretense of the fact that my model will be less than perfect. If I wanted/demanded closer to scale perfection, I would spend $600 for a Model Factory Hiro kit. Instead, I'll enjoy this old, much less costly Revell kit and dress it up a bit. Rivet counters may be disappointed but none ever visit my humble abode to peruse my model shelves anyway. I don't mind you criticizing my long nipples, just don't try to rub them.😄

Now that's something I never tried, letting the decals soak in water that long. It makes sense and surely is worth a try. It will be a while before I actually need the decals, just thinking ahead.
Decal sheet says, printed in Italy, so they could possibly be Cartograf.
I'll let you know how the Cricut adventure goes.

Yep, it's completely hardened and has started flaking off the backing paper, usually this means that the film is cemented to the paper....

What I found is once the liquid film is applied let it dry for a full 24hrs, then, once cut out, allow them to soak for at least 6 hrs, let them float right off the old backing paper cause that is what they will do then apply them directly from the water they are floating in...

It works sometimes, other times it doesn't, but more often than not it does... But it is a roll of the dice...

Depending on who made the decals it could be a simple soap solution used as the glue, others would use a milk solution, it's the milk solution that seems to dry up and flake off over time...

Let me know if the cricut machine works in cutting the stencils that would be the best way to deal with it then paint them on... (I've been thinking about acquiring a stencil cutter)

Another suggestion, the gold will have to go down as a two step process, since there is no paint that will give the reflectance that the decal has...

Make two stencils one an outline for the gold portion, the other the black lines portion, make the outline stencil for the gold a hair smaller than the outline portion, apply the outline stencil and use bright gold RnB (Rub n Buff) to fill the gold area then use the line stencil over the RnB layer to finish it off....

That is if the cricut can cut that small...

It should give you the gold back decal perfectly...

I agree with your assessment. I will do just that but hold little/no hope for a Microscale Decal Film resurrection from the dead. My batting average with this is near-zero once the decals have reached the state this sheet is in. The glue/adhesive is dead underneath the film.
I'm also going to give my daughter a crack at making a stencil for me with her Cricut machine. Not sure it can handle lettering this small though, but she thinks it can. We shall see.
In the meantime, I wrote Revell Germany on the off chance I may be able to acquire a replacement from them. Over 20 years old, I kinda doubt it but it's worth a try.

They haven't yellowed yet so that is excellent, but it does look like the adhesive holding them to the paper has gone south...

Micro Liquid Decal Film 1oz from microscale... I've used it on some old decals where the glue got to the point of attaching the decal to the backing permanently.... (it takes three times longer to soak them off, usually they fracture into a million pieces) It worked on most of them....

My first suggestion is take a close up photo of the sheet to use as artwork in case you have to have them printed by a decal print shop... (there are several good ones on the net)

Then, try the decal film on them and see if it works, the film holds the decal together so it doesn't fracture when going thru the slower process of applying....

Above all go slow and use patience, they probably can be recovered...

I’m wondering how to handle my need for decals/lettering. Decal sheet is kaput. Gold metallic colors. Not printer friendly.

Some of the South American immigrants coming into the USA are very proficient tree climbers/trimmers. A much needed skill set here in Florida. Impressive balance at heights.

Utilizing that helpful MFH spoke lacing diagram, I think I have the spacing sequence correct now. Making slow but steady progress in between “honey-do’s”.

You are very welcome, It totally helped me too
As  for MFH kits:  Brough Superior, Black Shadow and maybe a Cobra car….all pipe dreams and there are so many others
Maybe sell of the big stash and use the money for those?? 🤔

Thanks for the heads up on that.

That's the most helpful diagram I have seen for the spoke pattern. Thanks! I've got the opportunity to sort mine out at this juncture. Later on, not as much. I knew there was something I was missing, but this shows me everything.
If I was going to shell out the money for a MFH kit, I would be hard pressed to decide which one. A 1:12 '58 Ferrari Testarossa is one of the most tempting.

    A little tip...

real wheels, alternate spokes thread through the hub flange from alternate sides so the spokes aren't directly in contact where they cross.

Vincent's, being the last of the true quality British motorcycles retained the feature of the center of the rims painted black with a thin red pinstripe each side.
    There's a challenge for you.
And there aren't 3 tyre valves, only one! The other two are internal clamps to stop the tyre creeping, which does rip the valve out!

Where each spoke attaches to the hubs, will run a small bead of superglue or maybe epoxy all around to insure a strong bond. The outer portion of the spokes at the rims get sandwiched between each rim half so there is little worry about those becoming dislodged later on.
