Hi guys, thanks for all the likes.  Today...non productive.....I didn't even touch the ship....couldn't get into it for some reason.  So I spent the time researching the bowsprit and shrouds.  I see serving in the not too distant future....among other things....one thing is I don't have any bullseyes.....could be a problem.....

That scalloping looks awesome, you have managed to add a detail that is really spectacular looking. Well done. It's a pleasure following your build.

    Mark,

Nice updates. I don't think I noticed which manufacturer your's is from? The Bobinnette gilded pieces are very much like the original.  You are also making some really nice upgrades, looking excellent. Nice for we Vasa guys to have so many pics of the original. Were spoiled in that regard.

    Cheers,

    Frank,

That gold leafing really sets off those "horses" Super nice idea on your part. The Pegasus base set looks really perfect for this ship (I again thank you for sourcing my set which I will also attempt to leaf as well).

Your deck work is setting the standard, and raising the bar very high. Perfect....Thanks for the detailed "how to". Your weather deck is really a work of art.

PS: what thickness sander and saw are you using? And to think that I was all done buying tools (:-)

Yes there will be one on the port side as well... And it (they) have not been sized, edge trimmed or mitered at the tips. It was just a positioning example. Though you have given me a thought, I might add long poles at the stern to allow for cod fishing, however against Swedish navy rules that might have applied at the time. That fish was certainly in abundance at that time.

    Hi everyone,

    Firstly happy New Year (:-)

Taking a break from building the channels I thought that the perpendicular anchor catheads would be good time filler. As you note, this small update is just a starting point. That timber is wrong as well.

Ouch, on the view from on the weather deck pic you can see two small holes just to the right of the cathead timber. These two pilot holes I drilled to determine the height, as it would come through on the weather deck. Well, I drilled these from the outside of the hull and grrrrr, they were in the wrong place.

I should know better than to work in the shipyard only one day after New Year's Eve.

PS: As you can see in the first pic the 1:1 at one time had those mounted, but no longer. Maybe it was a weight issue?

    Hi Ulises
This is the first time I have looked through your log and I have to say great work!! the attention to detail and care you are putting into the rope work is fantastic.Balancing the tension of some of those lines is not easy but you have mastered it with great precision.
    Kind Regards Nigel

Part two of the hull's new trim piece installation.

Thanks to all of you for just looking in, posting, or clicking "like". So nice, works as a substantial catalyst for improving skills as well as collectively developing some very nice Internet friends in the process. As we all do, I also find a lot of pleasure, and learning by visiting other builder's logs. Ok...

    ------------------

Having grooved, sanded, shaped, and painted the two strips I had to decide how to properly install them. My first thought was just to overlay them above the existing planking, and cut them in several places during installation as they butted up against some of the cannon decorative rings.

But that was too risky because the slight but continuous curve from stern to bow would be lost at the artificial cuts. And at the areas that would only require a slight curved trim removal to allow space for the cannon rings might just crack or break the strip during the install.

So, I removed the cannon ring decorations, and then cut out and removed one row of existing side planking allowing for a seamless install of the new trim in one piece bow to stern.

I first measured and cut a piece of wood to make sure that the gap spacing was correct and that the new strips would run evenly parallel above the existing larger longitudinal hull timbers.

I then decided that glue was not required but merely used small brass nails. Started at the stern, with the trim in place drilled holes trough the trim and into the hull. As I went along I pushed in the nails allowing for an easy way to keep the intended curve; so far so good.

You might note that the nails were installed at and through the weather deck vertical cannon frames. Two reasons; 1) it allowed for more depth for the nails, and during the next step (cutouts) the strips should stay secure and not loose their slight curve even with out glue.

Next will be the cutouts, and trim gap spaces for the cannon rings. That will certainly cause some stress. Any big error and I'll have to go back to the Proxxon and start all over again. Not news to many of us, I'm sure (starting again that is) I'll post when completed.

    Regards,

    Michael

PS: Edit pics loaded all out of order again, but easy to figure out. Hmmm

    Mark,

I've already seen new things that I can do with the lathe. Here is one example; 2 pics from Jeronimo's absolutely astonishing Le Bonnehome Richard on the scratch built side. I hope that he does not object to my posting his 2 pics here, and I hope that I have not broken any MSW protocols in doing so.

PS: If you have not discovered his log, well you have no idea how amazing he is.
