My apologies to @Louie da fly for yet another  Viking Long Boat. But it will be like no other Viking ship you have seen my friend. You will be green with envy  lol.
Yes the official box opening and look at the parts. One roll of line that's it , grinning already.

So I laid out the plans and instructions and noticed an empty space were Captain Marvin usually is, was empty.  Oh well I will miss the little fellow  but you can't build a  ships with out a #1 . So I hired two local  fellows who tell of a Irish Drakkar  that sail from Irelad in the late 10th century.  It's quite the tall tail, might even be a myth, by the looks of these two lol.

They tell a tale of a Drakkar that was called " The Green". Sound interesting  so . I don't know if I can put that in he title  but we will see. There story go's something like this.  Enjoy.

Taking a look at the plans and I am  going to start numbering parts and putting things away.   To day I will glue together the Keel and bulkheads together.  By that time   it will be  be time to quit for the day

So another journey begins," Skoal "

    Hello,
the carpenters finished the great cabin for the captain. It took some time, because the oil has to dry, some days of because of eastern and the good weather we had. But now it is raining again, so we are busy at the yard.

Here the carpenters have the first bulwark allready finished in the raw.

today the carpenters repaired there mistakes from yesterday and finished the back side of the bulwark. Then they also build the doors. The shipwright is this time pleased and spend a beer. 😊

we where busy here with the aft bulwark. That is the plan

and here the (third!) raw bulwark

Today we finished the outside of the bulwark

When I saw this picture, I think there is some work left for tommorow. Some of the plinths have to go.

    Hello,
because the weather changed here dramatically, it has not rained now for 4 days and the sun is shining , I'm not so busy at the shipyard. Since November it is raining here with only some dry days between and may be 2 or 3 days with sunshine. Since Christmas it stormed every week, sometimes also twice a week and now for 14 days we had no storm. They said, this winter we had 22% more rain and it was 5°C warmer then the years before!

But at the shipyard the carpenters where busy and finished the quick-work.

    Hello,
that was a week of drawing. But at least I will build the cabins after the standard drawing. If it was really so, I don't know

May be I make the bed place a little narrower. But here I can store the cannon in the cabin.

This is the version they used at the Medway. The difference is, at the Medway the cabins are going until right behind the mast. So they are a little broader, but there is at least no space left for the cannon.
They had this cabins for the master and someone else, but I think that the master must look in this case for a place in the lobby for his maps and octant. When the 1.Lt. and the master had this deck, there are these extra cabins. Below the drawing for the 1745 establishment.

The carpenters where also busy and build the spirketting for this deck.

Hello, and many thanks for your likes and comments

Ian, I would be lucky if there where no sanding or glue marks  But at least, now the last are gone
Marc, with the symmetry it's such a thing. Because I had no real experience with this way to build a model, I chose a too thin plywood. So the starboard side is some millimetres broader then the port side of the ship. But you would't notice it without a ruler.

Here a picture with all 12 pounders in place, but now not permanently. Notice also my efforts to make the walls of the QD symmetrical.

As long as the oil has to dry, I'm looking how to set up the cabins. At the sheer plan the first bulwark begins 1m behind the wheels. At the floor plan directly behind them. That may also be a mistake in the sheer plan, or there where some cabins like at the model of the Centurion? The wheels here are behind the mizzen mast. And is there a cabin for at least the master? I looked at the pictures of models and plans from that period. They are all different. Even from plan to model  I prefer the way they did it at the Medway. That correspondent with the way they did it at the 60 gunner model I saw at Chatham. And I think that it will work, when the bed place for the captain is at least 2 m broad.

    Hello,
the last bulwark(?) between captains bed place and the lobby is installed.

Before I install the deck beams I have to make a decision, where to place the cannons? All sources say, there where 8 6 pdrs at the QD and 2 6 pdrs at the FC. But I never saw a model with a cannons at the FC! At least there is not so much space for cannons.

That cannon to the left has the problem with the shrouds, and the cannon to the right with the hight of the fife rail.

At least I could place all cannons at the QD, without one in the captain cabin. That would make the captain happy. And that is what you see at most of the models. If no one has a veto, I think I build it so.

Since I'm starting the fore castle earlier than planned, I haven't looked at this properly yet.
According to what I have read briefly, it should look like it is drawn on the cover of the MR book.
2 light cannons and all the are rest swivels, or hail shot pieces

In the meantime, i continued with the fore castle basis.

This time I checked in time whether any problems will arise with the schrouds.

So yes, my cardboard structure was much too wide at the top. Error corrected just in time.

The base starts at an angle of 45° following the (few) remains of the fore castle. And then with a curve upwards. As always too high or too long, shortening later is easier than lengthening.

Applying the second was a little more challenging.

Additional temporary supports were then installed. And i continued with finishing the waist.

Gluing done on starboard side, now on to port side. Sanding is for later.

Finished the second planking, then removed pins then re-drilled re added pins for adding third planks.

This again worked well, now have all with three planks each side and pins removed to start last set of planks.

Thanks guys for looking in and the likes.

The battle continues, gluing bulkheads and reinforcement of the construction

Hello everybody, yes I'm still alive and kicking.

My professional work, called a career gets in the way sometimes.  I'm just sorry for my absence lately but choices.....you know what I mean...
This weekend was a weekend I claimed for modeling. I have glued up all the frame / bulkhead pieces and then glued them to the center plate.
The construction was way to flexible in ships length so I had to reinforce the construction. Luckily I had a walnut dowel laying around which did the trick just fine and so I used my saw and chopped it into a lot of pieces. Glued all the pieces between the bulkheads and the thing is solid!

The upper part of each frame / bulkhead are very very fragile. So I decided to glue small pieces of basswood (10x10mm) between the frames to create a shell.
I used my table saw to saw some 10x10mm sticks and luckily the weather was nice this weekend here in The Netherlands. I'll bet the admiral wouldn't like the noise of the table saw and all the clouds of sawdust into the living room....

Well, that's it for this update, until the next one.

    Regards,
    Peter

    Next,
The further finishing of the cannon deck. And start building the basis for the  waist and the fore castle.

There is also a cabin at the front. The crew of the (optional) cannon has a lot of space again...
The sloping side of the cabin will later serve as a basis for a staircase

I run out of wood supplies. So the men from the sawmill were put to work (me...)
There is material of 3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9mm thickness back in stock.

    Thanks for following

Continued with the planking on the rear castle.
Frames 6, 8 and 10, which served as the basis for the rear castle, were too thick and were therefore made thinner.
I used the easy way, put the saw in and start sawing.

the stern is provided with the necessary holes for the tiller, etc.

The frames were too wide at the top and would cause problems later with the schrouds.
The simple way, tighten with an iron wire.

1.8cm less wide at the top, and "schroud test" ok 👍

The rear castle is now temporaly on hold.
Sanding the clinker planking and the interior is for later (outside the house...)
