pete48 reacted to MarisStella.hr in TRAJTA by MarisStella.hr - FINISHED - fishing and cargo boat from Korčula, Croatia
Hello everyone and thank you very much once again ...
JMaitri, I'm glad that you think that the idea of the CD is okay. My intention is to improve the instructions for building... Thanks for the compliment ... Please, explain what you mean " Are you spiling your plank strakes? ". I do not understand this phrase ...I do not speak English well enough, but ignore that fact in the future communication, I think I manage quite well ...
...Thanasis, text on your nice website confirms my words
...pete48, thanks again ... Now it comes the closing of the planking downwards, and finishing from the bottom to up ...
...Here are photos that shows descending downwards:

pete48 got a reaction from Elmer Cornish in Herreshoff 12 1/2 prototype by pete48 - FINISHED - 3/4" = 1' - SMALL
After looking at the boat last night, I realized that the fairing was not complete. So I started the day by cutting in the Sheer , then spent about 5 hours completing the fairing of the hull . Now it looks more like Capn' Nate's 12 1/2 . This taught me that I will need to re loft my Profile drawing. here are the results

Today, The weather was not going to let me Varnish the brightwork on the Buzzards Bay 14ftr.So I thought it would be a good day to work on the 12 1/2, First I made the cradlle, the same way I made one for the Buzzards Bay. Then I did more Fairing on the Hull. ( fairing is just about finished ) Next will be to epoxy the inside of the Hull , with West System .( this way I have the option to Sail Her) here are the results

pete48 reacted to Piet in Hr. Ms. O 19 1938 by Piet - FINISHED - scale 1:50 - submarine of the Royal Navy Netherlands in service 1939 - 1945
Hello all and thanks for visiting, your comments and likes, it means a lot to me.
@ John (Lad): thank you John, yep, the crew was always busy when loading torps and mines but especially when in action against the enemy.
@ Wacko Joe: Thanks and you make me laugh. When I posted all them pics I thought about you and Sjors, yuns like plenty of pictures I'm glad you enjoy my build progresses toward completion.
@ Amateur Jan: Yep, I have used strands from telephone wires. They are super fine copper wire but in using them in this application prevents me of actually demonstrating the gantries work, they'll be too stiff for that. I should have soaked them in boiling water first. Guess what I'll use for the boat's antenna wires, yep, one single strand. I'll stretch them to harden them and make them stiff to prevent a sag. wait and see.
@ Chief Don: Great seeing you here in my dockyard, welcome. Thank you very much for your very kind compliment, coming from you, Kevin and a few other "old" submariners it's especially appreciated.
@ Pete48: Thanks agin Pete!!!!
@ Carl: Thank you Carl and now you make me blush Well, actually I do have a few more small hand tools and a few other small shop tools but yes, most was all done with small tools and let's not forget the strong fingers
Okay, the dockyard was closed today. Had a doctor's appointment to hear the verdict on the bladder biopsies. We are still in limbo on them because of conflicting reports from the lab. The biopsies were send to another lab for a second or third opinion. Wont know for another 10 days.
Cheers,

pete48 reacted to marsalv in Pandora by marsalv - FINISHED - 1:52
I decided to start work on another model (work on Royal Caroline have reached the stage where it can be easily done at home in the autumn and winter months). The choice fell on Pandora.
It is my first real scratch build (POB) according to plans from the book Anatomy of the Ship.
The first phase of construction was making a plan of the bulkheads and the keel using TurboCad.

pete48 reacted to MEDDO in Halifax 1768 by MEDDO - FINISHED - Lauck Street Shipyard - 1/4" scale
Wow, the forecastle deck clamps were a real pain to get in. Probably the hardest part of the build yet. They are bent inside the stem. At least they were laminated 2 pieces. I had a real time of it trying to get them symmetrical and bent properly prior to glue up.
At least I had time while the pieces dried to prep most of the forecastle frames/carling/ledges.

pete48 reacted to usedtosail in USS Constitution by usedtosail - FINISHED - Model Shipways - scale 1/76
Thanks Pete and others for the likes. I feel like an idiot this morning. As I writing the entry yesterday I was thinking - I know I have tools to make equal length strips, so why am I not using them?
This morning I cut five strips the same length using a Chopper with a stop set for the length, and planked between a gun port in much less time. I only had to get the first strip to the correct length, them used it to set the stop. I guess I didn't think this would work at first because previous builds did not have perfectly square gun ports, but these seem to be much more precise. Oh well, I am always learning, and some times relearning, with this hobby. isn't it great?

...and now ... the sigle planking method... this is a method that requires carefulness and some experience ... Puttying is allowed, but the less the better ...
