I look forward to watching the progress of your build. Bob Hunt is a perfectionist, in my opinion and that is a goos thing.  Being limited in my building abilities I am a fan of his praticums, of which I have many, and would be lost without having them on hand for immediate answers.

This not however taking a shot at all of the expert advise and help which I find here.

I feel that it has been that way for years but must mention the parts that come with the kits are so much better that way back when. Actually I should correct myself for back then one was expected to make much from scratch and this guy had little if any experience with that so got back into it in my later years, an engineer I am not.  I periodically check ebay for partially competed kits at a good price to build up my own inventory. Modelshipways, ModelExpo, Has a good selection of parts and an occasional 50% off sale, they have however cut way back on what they have available. As mentioned earlier Syren is also a great source.

You are doing a fantastic job on your construction and to add a portion of the additional deck is one that shows your expertice at model building and quest to and desire to share your knowledge of Conny.

PS: I had friends in North Reading which is a fine town. I grew up in Lowell

I relate the appearance of USS Constitution to one who has made many visits to a plastic surgeon over the years. The insides do not change but the outward appearance has. I believe that there is much more historical data which has been lost vs. that which is available. I enjoy the debate and there seems to be many views on how she looked at different peiods of her life basedon paintings to period models.

Like any other military piece she was improved to make her stronger to create a true fighting machine. Paintings are the product of the imagination of the artist and the, now aged models of the past, such as that which sits in a place of honor in the Peabody Essex museum are based on memory rather than actual plans giving the builder free mind to exibit their own interpretation.

I do not claim to be a historian nor expert concerning this valiant ship but just my humble opinion

You have taken a pile of wood and metal and turned it into a masterpiece. There are few who have this ability and applaud you for your accomplishment

Please send some more photos of your build, when you get the time, for you guys have me hooked.

Modelexpo is a great source and unless you are in a rush has a 50% off periodically which can be a substancial savings.

I have found, and your photos show, that it is not just a matter of taking the wood out of the box and gluing it together. It is more of a science from the standpoint of creating the tools to insure allingment and integretiy of the build.

After many years away from modeling I chose this kit a few years back and yes there are many short comings including the elimination of a deck. In all I totally enjoyed the build and decided to do it based on the supplied plans and put my desire for authenticity aside.
