Robert said it best; She is a treasure.  Loves me some Revell Plastic.  I heard they are re-issuing it sometime soon!  Wonder how much the kit cost in 1959???

    Howdy all,

Well, she is finally finished.  Got her rigged as fully as I could.  I couldn't for the life of me do the forward "reef lines" on the sails.  I think I am calling them by the correct nomenclature.  I assume that they are the lines that help to furl the sails, and they are supposed to be forward of the sails and attached that way.  However, I could not figure out the instructions.  I went to school on others here, but by the time I think that I knew how to do them, there was no way that my hands would have fit into such a tight space.  However, I am proud of how it came out, and it was worth all the effort.  I enjoyed it very much.  If it's okay, I just added four pictures of figures that I did.  They are 1/35 DML plastic.  Loved to do them, but after my eyes got into my late forties, they were very difficult to do.  Hope you don't mind that they have nothing to do with ships, just wanted to show you what I did in another life.  Have a wonderful weekend and I appreciate any comments, suggestions, critiques.

    Hey SiF,

Looking good so far!  I have the same model on my table right now.  I think that you will really enjoy building it.  I've just started the rigging.  The book will come in handy if you want to super-detail it or add some goodies to the deck.  I look forward to seeing this one completed.  Keep us posted

I respect much your build!  Beautiful.  I hear you on the movie "Admiral."  I watched it on Netflix, and while I had to read the subtitles, I absolutely was fascinated by the movie.  Well-made, well-acted and very interesting!!

    Howdy all,

Finally, got the boat halves welded together, and the aft finished up.  Plus, I had to do quite a bit of touch up painting since I'm about as delicate as a steam shovel!  I really like the coppering on the bottom.  I think it adds a lot of "wow, that's different."  Added some chains to the rudder.  Not sure how accurate, but they look nice - so good enough.  The mount is just temporary.  The clay grips the model, but allows me the ability to manipulate the boat if I need to get at a weird angle.  The eyebolts were a bear to make and install, but I think, worth the time and effort.  I now have to start working on the guns.  Four deck guns that I have to detail out.  What do you call the tools that a Sailor used to load (like the worm, a rammer and a sponge)?  What would be the nomenclature for a set of those?  Anyway, updates will be slower and slower with summer coming.  I have some acres in the country, and that means cleaning, shooting guns, mushroom hunting, camping.  Plus, the beach is going to be calling our name here in a bit.  Got to get our tan on!

Today I decided to tackle the windlash you may recall the original parts from page one when I built some of it

I used the sides as a template but modified it here and there and added some

more detail to add and certainly more stain but im happy with the progress

    Howdy all,

Well, I did decide to copper the bottom.  First, I went to the LHS and got some nice Vallejo blue and yellow.  I never prime (something that I really need to start doing) so it took 6 coats to get the color somewhat uniform.  After the LHS, I headed over to Hobby Lobby and bought some of the copper tape that stained-glass window folks use.  And, it went on like a dream.  Now, I tried to make it look accurate, but I mostly used strips and then scored it with a tweezers (made the size the same, and did the job twice as fast.  I used strips because I didn't want to cut each individual plate. I like the effect.

    Howdy Eric,

Thanks for the support and looking at my humble attempt at making plastic better.  I had mine in my office, when the vacuum caused a door to slam real hard and actually made a frame fall off the wall, which then knocked the Beagle onto the floor....

However, I did want to show what the life boat looks like now that she is finished and in place.   I know the coiled ropes look a little cheesy, but I like them, so they stay.  Then I did some smaller ropes fore and aft and that's it.  She's good

    Howdy all,

Just wanted to make the launch a little more detailed.  I still need to afix a rudder.  I just used styrene strips and put some ribs in.  The center piece of wood was my first idea to put a wooden lower deck/floor, but it didnt' work out too well.  So, I just added the plastic ribs and good to go.  Oh, I will also be adding some eyebolts; one on the fore, and two aft.

I found some left over rudder chain from my victory build which fitted nicely not a link to much or to little

did a bit more work on the transom and while waiting for paint to dry put together one of the lanterns from caldercraft and built some of the billings supplied swivel guns

there is a bit further work to do with the transom but im happy so far with the progress

Another update build report thus far in the construction finishing up the planking and adding channels and knees should have the hull wrapped up by this evening and the real fun will begin. The wood in the kit is starting to cooperate  no more splitting it goes to show the dead wood needs moisture.  I have 7 other old Billing Boats kits in my stash pile I went bqack and checked them out to see if the wood is like that of Isabella but I lucked out the wood is still fresh. The wood Billings use in their kits are differ then the usual mostly Ramon and Mohogany these woods in time will dry out very fast and its better to store these old kits ion a cool and dry place no humidity.  I mixed me up some green and red stain for the upper courses this will be applied later when everything is buttoned down.  Thus far not a bad kit last night I tried on the internet to get some reference on this old kit to my surprise there is none I am the only reference that is available to this kit/ Mr. Einar Billings stated in the instruction book the origin in unknown and the plans don't exist, Makes you wonder if this kit is fictional But I know for one its a typical Spanish galleon of the Spanish main still in search for reference to this vessel I will keep looking perhaps I will get lucky. Okay guys the next set of update build report pictures the hull will be completed.

Slow process but this is what model ship building is all about lots of time and plenty of it.  At this stage of construction cant do much more until the water line of the hull has been pre paired and painted. Then after that the real fun will begin the upper planking and transom will be next on the genda. Although an ancient kit with all of the wood saturated with polyurethane the wood is holding its own, I should have built this kit ages ago but when you spend 30 years of your life fighting for freedom in the NAVY as a career man there is no time to build just collect and build when I retired now I am paying penalty for letting this kit go idol for almost 50 years. with all of the wood pre pared and moisture prevasils makes the build more enjoyable at first of its construction I had second thought in what to do build or scuttle.  A kit with this beauty and the fittings set I purchased separately made me make the decision build on .  The photos at the bottom shows the results of the separation of the waterline from the natural wood planking. The pictures before hand shows the planking since the this portion of the pl;anking at the bow differs from the rest is because it will be filled with putty masked down sanded and painted it wont be seen. Here are the update pictures.

thanks Steve and Philo for the comments I am honored Beautiful job on the Wasa Philo, Yep same thing on my Isabella the first coat it soaked it up like a thirsty drunk. about 5 coats of poly to get the life sprung back in to the wood, Here is another update build report on the Isabella. Thus far I done some tidying up on the build I let dry over night and ponmder over the build and look for mistakes I found a couple and got them squared away ship shape.  The hardest part of the build is over and the rest will be a piece of cake. after I do some moire tidying up I will go and plank the remainder of the decks and finish up the planking on the hull resume to the deck furniture and some color staining
