Thank you for the words of encouragement, @Ian_Grant. Yes, the prop-shaft and prop are from George Sitek - I've always been really impressed with their product, and that's no less true on this occasion.

The rudder servo tray is constructed, with the servo mounted and fitted... I've also installed the motor on its own tray and mounted that between two bulkheads. Everything's screwed in place so that it can be removed as necessary through the access hatch above. The receiver will go next to the rudder servo. A bit of brass wire has been used as the linkage between the rudder post and the rudder servo. This is bent so that it doesn't hit the bulkheads as it passes forward. Altogether, I'm quite please. Here are some pictures of progress so far.

I'm really glad I decided to do all of this before planking the other side closed... it's made life WAY easier

As a note, do be careful with these, as they're very easy to put on too high or too low. Photocopying the plans and sticking them to the side of the hull will help you here. Also, if in doubt, make card templates of the ply parts and try it out as a mockup (they're easier to bend and manipulate before you bend the parts!). It took me a good while to be satisfied it would all fit together, and I ended up pinning parts so I knew when I glued them they'd go where I'd intended them to go.

The line where the top of the stern lights finishes will determine the intersection between the bulwark rail and the capping rail over the transom. And it will also determine how the lights look as they transition between the quarter galleries and the stern... which for me is a line that the eye picks up on (one of those "you'll never notice it if it's right" things?) and makes a big difference. Anyway - I wish you all the best as you set out into perhaps the most challenging, but also the most rewarding section of the build!

The construction came to an end after approx. 4600 hours. All that remains is to post a few last photos and thank all the followers for watching and commenting on the progress of the model construction. Thank you.

Another update from me - The inner waterway which is pretty much more of the same but is easier to make.  Its made up of three sections per side.

The parts were then glued into place - I found that the dovetails pretty much hold these parts in their correct place.  They do nee to be clamped though to bring them down to the sheer.

Then I made and fitted the first plank up the bulwark so that I could finish the bevel on the waterway.  This was then all sanded down and blended in and I'm pleased with the result.

So thats brings another part of the build to conclusion.  The next job is to make the binding strakes.

@DaveBaxt this is where I work - Its not a big area but I find it more than adequate.  Its always this tidy as its our spare room so I need to make sure that the mess is always cleaned up.

    Cheers Mark

Nice, sturdy-looking shaft and prop! Also, I don't see much "serious sanding" for your hull.....😉

Planking continues... Port side is now planked, and starboard side well underway...  I'll leave the serious sanding until I've got the whole hull planked.

Also, the right parts for the universal coupling, along with a new motor arrived...

    SEA TRIAL #2 !!!!!

While getting set up for this trial, I noticed my supply to the Arduino was intermittent (thank God for the power indicator LED on the board). Without a USB connection from a laptop, the Arduino gets its power from a 9V battery connected via a jack and the Arduino regulates it down to 5V. Two issues: (1) my 9V battery was giving barely 6.5V so the regulator was close to not being able to work (needs a certain amount of ceiling above 5V at its input), and (2) I forgot to solder one of the connections in the jack (!). So that's why the problem in Trial #1.

This time I simulated the second tier of oars by adding suitably sized slices of pine to the existing oars' blades with rubber bands. I am delighted with the result, she moves much better. I now look forward to making and adding the second tier of oars, finishing up the hull, adding the removable deck, and painting her.

Here's a video of this trial. I remembered this time to try out the various turning features i.e. inside oars stopped, inside oars reversed, depending on how sharply rudder is turned.

Cabin sides on and something called cabin shields mounted.  Next step is to add some detail to the cabin sides.

Finished painting the upper part of the hull white and marked the waterline.  Now finishing the bottom fittings before painting the rest of the hull red-brown.

An oddity of this kit for someone like me who is building it as a static model (vs. R/C).

The rudders and fittings to install them are included in this kit.  BUT, the props and shafts are not, although the skegs are.

The props are in the "running hardware" accessory kit, which is a cool $134 on top of the $375 I already paid for the model.  No way.  There's a clear asymmetry in the way parts are supplied with the base kit for a static modeler, and I think I will write Dumas about it.  Props and enough to mount them as dummies should be in the base kit.

So I went onto Amazon and found some nice brass props for $10 for the pair, used some brass rod from my "spares" supply, and voila . . . what you see.  All of this will be painted red-brown so the brass and white skegs will all blend together.

    Regards,
    David

A quick update... I've added the first three rows of planking on starboard and port, and also filled in the stern between the bulkheads with balsa. To get a nice curved shape, this seemed like a necessity, especially as this model has only a single planking layer.

Topmast shrouds and ratlines are complete. I've been doing a little work on the bowsprit, adding the inner and outer bobstays using the kit supplied chain, which was chemically blackened. The chains were attached using black thread, which will be trimmed one I've put some glue on it to stop the knots coming undone.

Okay - time for a short update... I've added the futtock bars - it took me a lot of head-scratching to work out how to do this neatly, but I ended up using 0.5mm brass wire, with a loop at one end, that was tied to an eyelet in the mast, having hooked the other end through the eye in the bottom of the deadeye strop... They were tested for size, then blackened before final fit.

    The parts...

    And the fitting...

And then I went on to put on the topmast shrouds, and I've begun the ratlines...

    Progress is being made

As before, the ratlines are DMC Cordonnet #20 Ecru thread. The same stuff I use for rope-making. It's lovely stuff to use for tying ratlines - very forgiving, and once brushed with watered down PVA, I've had no problems with knots coming undone. Once the topmast shrouds have their ratlines, I'll need to add the futtock bars for the crosstrees on the fore and main masts.

Thanks for looking in and taking an interest.

    Happy building

    Rob
