    That is a very good tutorial, Jaro. I used Freeship to develop a hull for the first time and am yet to practice it's features. Could you please tell me how you take out frames in AutoCAD using these hull data ? Thanks for sharing this tutorial. Rao

    Thanks everybody. I am happy that you all like it. Nils, I have taken your advice - looking for a suitable larger model (to go with my little experience). Would appreciate suggestions. Jbelwood, Omega, Mark and Matija : thanks once again for your appreciative comments. I am following your builds in this forum. Thanks Michael : In fact I was reading Ancient Indian Ships in Art this morning - and was surprised to learn their early ship building ways. Just to quote : one sentence : "Excavation at Alagankulam, district Ramnad yielded two potsherds engraved with sailing ships datable to 1st century BC / AD.(12) One depicts part of a ship in full sail with a mast which is supported by stays, sail and two paddles. Some scholars have identified the vessel with traditional boats of Tamil Nadu, Vattai. " There is much more and interesting. My interest is to find out how they built water tight compartments in those days with teak wood and built ships that carried 1000 men. I am gathering info and if you or anybody needs anything in this regard, I would be glad to help. Wish you all a Merry Christmas and happy modelling in the year to come. Regards, Rao

    Hi, The model is complete. Thanks, Michael, Matija, Nils, Mark, Omega and Mike for dropping in and offering comments and advice. Surely, all your encouragement would help me in future. I only follow all your builds and observe - truly, this has helped me a lot. The final pics are attached : The lantern is placed... Anchor and gun .. The gun swivels around ... bucket... with the supplies, oars, etc. another view.. A small box. I enjoyed doing it. The latch and hinges were of second thought. Another trial .. a compass.. not to the mark. all supplies placed... top view. Last pic of the boat. Let me thank you all for your comments. Regards, Rao

    Have u tried any turning on this? I had seen ads. The dealer claims it is only a toy. I dropped further enquiries. Is it worth going in for? Rao

    Thanks Mark, Nils, Omega and Mike, for your comments and encouragement. I am an admirer of your builds. In numbers, this is the second and as a complete project, this is the first. I have done a few plastic aero modelling and nothing in ship modelling. Being in-experienced, there were many ups-downs; such times - I used to come to this site and read again & again on the many builds - get charged and will return to my work-bench. If you like this model - all the credit goes to my friends at MSW whose builds are a lesson to learn and enjoy. Thanks Mike, I will keep your advice in mind.     HI, The rigging is complete. This is the first time, I have done rigging. There may be mistakes. Would appreciate suggestions for corrections. I have not made the rigging permanent - not glued. Due to space constraints, I may need to pack this model for paving way for another one. So, the rigging and mast can be removed, packed and redone whenever need be. Here are some more pics... No power tools are used - only hand tools. Hence, the model may not be of quality; but it is an attempt to learn the basics of model ship building and enjoy doing it. Thanks, Rao

    Hi, Am attaching some more pics. Rudder assembly. Lantern for the boat. It is of 13 pieces soldered together with candle inside. just for comparison of size!! Anchor... and it's parts. Mast, boom, bow sprit and gaff. Test rigging ...not complete.. Rao

    Thanks Michael, Matija & Nils for your comments. You are correct Matija regarding the no. of seats. The same thing occurred to me also; the original which I followed shows six. I thought, it would be cramped, i reduced it to five. I am attaching the photos which I followed in the beginning. Whatever the space, i could visually place between the frames, I did; but that had created problem at the stern. If I had seen DCooper's jolly boat earlier, I would have got better understanding. Anyway, I thought of proceeding further and learn by my mistakes. Six seats!! .Rao

    Thanks Michael, In fact I was wondering how & where to start. But viewing the great builds by experts in MSW, gave me enough confidence. Looked around for a simple boat and here I am. I failed twice in making the bulkheads which proved a mistake, when I started planking. The third attempt was OK. As there was no measurements availableI had to go on visuals only. Attaching some more pics for your expert comments. Keel mounted on temporary stand. All frames in position. After planking - before sanding. Another view after planking. After first coat of paint. Another view of the boat. Mast in position. Rigging is almost complete. Will post the pics in next two days - there you may have a lot of things to tell me. Rao

    Hi, This is my first post on my small boat build. I am a total novice - having inspired by great builds in MSW, I tried this Long Boat. I did not had any plans, followed some photos. No kits or to any scale. Totally scratch built. During the last eight months, this has given me a lot of satisfaction and learning. I have followed some wonderful builds in MSW. Though this (my first boat) may not pass for any standard model with experts around in MSW, being a novice, this is my crude attempt to learn ship modelling There are many mistakes. I expect you to point out each and correct me so that I can learn and plan for another model. If I am allowed I will post some more pics. The model is almost complete. Regards, Rao A.L.G.
