  2. #1 Posted November 12, 2023 1:84 Santisima Trinidad – Trafalgar 1805 The Santisima Trinidad (full name: Nuestra Señora de la Santísima Trinidad), was a Spanish first-rate ship of the line with 112 guns. This was increased in 1795–96 to 130 guns by closing in the spar deck between the quarterdeck and forecastle, and to 136 guns around 1802 (plus 4 small guns on the poop), thus creating what was in effect a continuous fourth gundeck although the extra guns added were actually relatively small. She was the heaviest-armed ship in the world when rebuilt and bore the most guns of any ship of the line outfitted in the Age of Sail. She was built at Havana, Cuba, to a design by Irish naval architect Matthew Mullan (domiciled in Spain under the name Mateo Mullán), originally intended as a ship of 112 guns. He died on 25 November 1767, and the construction of the ship was continued by his son, Ignacio Mullán. and the ship was launched in March 1769 and completed in August 1769 as a 116-gun three-decker. She was considerably larger than her British contemporary Victory and somewhat bigger than the French Bretagne. Commanded by Francisco Javier Uriarte and the flagship of Rear Admiral Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros, she took part in the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21, 1805, as part of the combined Franco-Spanish fleet. Due to her great bulk, her helm was unresponsive in the light winds on the day, contributing to her ineffective service in the combined fleet's cause. Her great size and position immediately ahead of the fleet flagship Bucentaure made her a target for the British fleet, and she came under concentrated attack by several ships. She lost her mast and eventually surrendered to the Neptune; a 98-gun second rate commanded by Captain Thomas Fremantle. She was taken in tow by the 98-gun second rate Prince but was eventually scuttled by her British captors northwest of Cádiz.
  3. good evening everyone first of all apologies for this build log, my standards are not very high at the best of times, and circumstances have left this log looking quite sorry for itself, i will try and get back up to how i used to present my builds, with regular updates, they used to be daily, anyway with that out of the way i would like to show the non believers that i can actually finish a build. and i present you with a completed HMS Indefatigable , but before the photo's a big thank you for @chris watton and @James H and for the followers, and contributors. more photos will be in the gallery Kit Vanguard Models Scale 1/64 Paints AK Acrylic with a hairy stick had the kit 825 days, but on the table 442, - not worked on every day though

  6. good evening everyone This week i had to do something about the hull i had used copper tape, and cleaned them with nail varnish remover, before using an acrylic varnish, but never wore gloves at any time, so i think the oils from my fingers wore everything away its a shame, as i now have a two tone hull, and made worse by not wanting to do the bow, which is not quite so bad

  8. can i make a suggestion, instead of going the whole hog with a full scratch, try something like a CAF kit, and take it from there, now i will leave the room and not come back until invited Sailing ship

  10. you have done a lovely job so far, how times have changed, buying a kit, where nothing has been laser cut, will seam very alien to some of the newer generation of builders. i will continue to check in on yr progress
  11. I was wondering just how all the internal fittings are going to stay pristine and in place when it comes to hull fairing/any planking
  12. well indy is certainly back, and i hope to complete her by the end of this month May 2025. just completed the mizzen yard lifts the stern copper plates, wore away from handling ( another tape error i have learnt, and will be replace before the rudder is fitted, the bow is not so bad i certainly understand full fat rigging now, just how many more lines should i have hade to put on the Caldercraft HMS Victory sorry about the pants photos the room is long enough but not the width, so hope to get her outside this week and the bois say hello
  13. i love Mountfleet kits, the metalwork does require a lot of cleaning up, but does turn out nice, this is my St Nectan, good luck with the rest of the build
  14. I appreciate, video viewers may be interested in the process of the PE blackening, but would it be simpler to just spray black
  15. good evening everyone thank you for comments and likes @hollowneck thats a lovely build @brunnels up to last week i have only ever used rattle cans and hairy sticks all five boats have had the outer coats changed from oils to matt white, i dont have the cradles fitted yet so not in any proper position taught myself to airbrush this weeks, by making up one of the Emhar 1/24 trucks
