    I envy your woodworking knowledge. I had to look on youtube to see what an equipped woodworker should have. To date I still do not have all I think I need. When I see what prisoners make I am ashamed of my desire for tools.

    My son retires from the Air Force next July after 20 years so CONGRATS! Did basic at Ft. Lewis in '71. Enjoy what I believe is the besy hoby/life interest in the world. Do not forget You Tube for builders info. Google the kit you are attempting and let 'er rip. I started with Model Expo because they will replace parts I might ruin in the building. I bought online a wood garage kit, real wood, and built it for my grandson. He love4d it but couldn't take it woith to Korea where his dad is stationed.

    HOORAY for another card modeler! I've not been at it that long. Couple of years. I look for card models I can purchase other media kits about. I use Fiddler's Green for lots of buildings and aircraft.

    DRY FIT. Once there's glue it is hard to undo.

    And I have been reading about the WW II part played by Aussies in defeat of one of the world's premier ocean going fleets. This is the theatre all my family members who served fought in. On to a point use a search engine for 'building scale model ships' for more visual information. It has helped me just seeing how its done. I have watched Master and Commander so many times just for the vessel. The books are in my library.

    I write this a lot but here it is. Research you tube. There are many, many videos on building scale model ships and other stuff. There are resources about certain models on sites like Model Expo. Dry run as much as you need to before gluing. There are resources for getting replacement wood and products. Lauck Street Shipyard has stuff. And have FUN!

    It is a swell place. I have begun a Model Shipways (second attempt) USS Constitution in honor of the vessel's restoration. I also use You Tube because I do great when I can watch.

    Good for you. I have started and stopped with my life flow. Now I'm back making my old familiar mistakes and learing all over how its done.

    Your translation is fine. Welcome to a truly international hobby site. Try a google search with your vessel's name and manufacturer. This should turn up information.

    Welcome Shane. I may sound like a broken record but try searching You Tube for video on your specific model and also for any which may strike your fancy. I found a lot of help because if I see it I can usually do it. I, too am retired(disabled part army related) so I have time. Since I live in Minnesota it is a LONG drive to the sea but we do have Great Lakes to watch. My male family members served, and some died, in the Pacific in 1942-45. Looking forward to pictures you can post.

    I am glad to see a skilled person is rejoining the site. I have little experience but I watch You Tube for instruction and inspiration. Bending planks is a block for me.

    Welcome! If it floats, someone here is building or has built it. Search YouTube for video on the craft and vessels. Have you done and steam boats? Great Lakes vessels?

    You have an impressive vision and depth of knowledge. Try looking on YouTube for information. You may be surprised at what you find. I have yet to figure out how to do the pictures for posting but I am closing in. I have the same Soliel Royale kit you have and I must say it could be daunting. Whenever I get frustrated I work on the engine on my 1986 Dodhe Caravan minivan. Turning wrenches helps relieve stress.

    I have begun ModelSpace HMS Victory. It has some of the best 'how to' information I've seen. There is even a YoyTube location for this model. Its great to see hands on video like this. 

    For my only grandson I'm building the Fire Engine from Model Expo. Hope to have it completed by the time they return from Korea where his dad is retiring from the Air Force.

    Are you anywhere near Islandwana? Just picked up a book about the battle and how the British were handed their lunch by the Zulu. I'm hunting for paper model vessels. I wou;ld like a plastic, wood and paper model of the same vessel.

    I, too, have some plastic ships to do. I found a You Tube series on the USS Arizona and other plastic models with great tips on how to get it right. I'm working on Arizona and USS Constitution. When I did a galleon for a friend I waxed the lines and seized them so they would move. I bought neutral thread to do the seizing so I wouldn't run out. I also wash the plastic parts in wasm water with dish detergent to remove any substance from the surface before painting. I also prime almost all parts. HHB2/83dFA

    Welcome aboard and welcome home. We are probably about the same age. I'm 67. Served in the army arty 71-74. I found the you tube has some inspiring and educational segments on ship building. If the vessel in question had a usn designation you might try the navy data base if you have the name.

    We all start somewhere - in age, unbuilt kit, restore, partial build. Getting in there and getting so involved time seems to stands still. That's the joy. I was surprised at hoe many people arte ready to help. Take in all the info you can then decide what you want to do. That's the way master builders grow. Age is a NON-FACTOR.

    Look on JoTiKa web site. They specialize in Napoleonic British vessels. Good ideas. I have some of their klits and they are first rate both in instructions and quality of wood.
