after all this was finished and allowed to dry,  the doors were assembled onto the traps.

the adjustment was made to the sorting table......it looks a bit better.

the trap near the crane was cemented in place first..........

the other lobster is on the sorting table........

I failed to get any pictures of the rope tying and such,  but here are the finished pictures of the rest of the traps.  they are all cemented in place.

this ends the saga of the traps........a few more props,  and this boat will be finished.   I can then do the Phylly C,  which will require a lot less to finish that one off.   Enjoy!!!

    Hi shipmates.

A little update from the Fitting shop...

The creew reminded me of a important issue.

What if we get a leak in the hull, or need to pump out some water ?

    Didnt think of that ....

Ok, i had to make them a pump then.

Then some smart engineer asked for some light when it gets dark outside on those late summer nights...

    Ok funny Guys!

I think you all need glasses or a magnifier…..
    See the picture below.
    There is only one thing…….
When I placed the masts I was thinking….2 masts?
    That's not right!
The drawing saying 3 masts but where is number three?
So I take all the drawings to see if I have missed something….
The front and middle deck has his holes for the masts but they forget the stern deck
Anja thought that I was planking over it but no, no hole……..
I have to take my drill again and make another hole…..

Well I've made two attempts now at the mast coats and the second, while a bit out of scale, seems to have turned out ok...here's the story.

I had read on Dan B's Glad Tidings log on the old MSW about how he had constructed the mast coats. He provided a very detailed and helpful description of the process - I had planned on consulting it during the construction of these little features....alas!

Anyway, my first attempt (pictured below) was the result of me trying to construct from memory what Dan had done...you can see how that turned out! Sheesh!! I'm almost too embarrassed to share this...

Anyway, I thought I'd just live with this, but this idea came to be too deeply dissatisfying, so I decided to have another go, this time following the kit instructions and carving them from wood....

I found some 1/4" and 3/8" thick basswood and drilled some 3/8" holes in it. I quickly decided that the 1/4" was the better choice for scale...

I then sawed the 1/4" strip into small squares and trimmed them into circles...

I then bevelled the ring with a small sanding block as steeply as a dared...

Much better - though as I said probably not in scale....I suppose I could have spent a bit more time getting it down to a more reasonable size, but I had to run out for pizza! And then I guess I was just so happy that they didn't look like my first attempt that I put it out of my mind.

Anyway, here's a couple of shots of the build to this point - now I have to add fittings to the main mast and prep both masts for the standing rigging....

    Bye for now!

thanks for looking in Bob........I know it's crazy......but I'm used to it by now.   compared to others here at MSW,  I'm still a relative newbie.......I think I've only been doing these about four years now {I lost track}.
I've started the logs......I can just pick them up later.  thanks for the good word.......and not to worry,  I can only work on one build at any given moment

    4 - 13 - 2012

I forgot what I was doing between the time frame.......but I brought the Gothenborg back out.

    4 - 19 - 2012

I did some small detail work at this time,  adding a little something here and there.  there is the gap between the aft deck and the balcony,  I decided to make a locker that will span the width of the aft deck.  I will need to make a slight change in the curvature of the balcony to hide this as well.

I did a bit more with the bow spirit as well.

I cleaned up the chain plates....prep for paint

I added extra wood to the fore chain plates, so I could put more of a curvature to match the hull.

    PLEASE NOTE

ORIGINAL BUILD WAS FROM JAN 2009 & COMPLETED IN JAN 2010

    Lady Nelson Build Log

Hi all this will be my first model ship build for over 20 years so I am a sort of beginner, I decided to build a model as I find its to cold to go carp fishing in the winter and can only play golf weather and arthritis permitting, so I sold a few watercolours of Thames Sailing Barges (another hobby) on Embay to pay for the project, the Lady Nelson looked to be just the model to build.

I sent off for the kit plus some tools a plank bender, plastic vice, pin pusher, pin vice and some quick set PVA back in the old days I used cascamite a powder glue you mixed with water from watery thin to porridge thick, no super glue in them days how things have moved on, plus a roto electric multi tool. While waiting for these to come I set up the workstation, the end of the lounge table, (I also paint there my wife thinks its more sociable), a sheet of mdf and a cutting mat. Then read all the build logs and tutorials.

The kit arrived 25th Jan and the contents checked all seemed to be good quality, another read of the tutorial. I cut out the frames/bulkheads and dry fitted to the keel, found they were a sloppy fit so packed the out with card, glued the frames to the keel making sure they were square, and the same height at both sides, plus the outside length the same from the centre line on the keel. Fist problem the second frame from the bow had the deck level higher one side hard to measure just looked wrong I find if it looks right it usually is.
That’s it for now I will add some pics
