The paint I used is prepared for me, I'll bought it in a paint shop for car paint. It is a mix out of 50% Ral 8004 and 50% Ral 3013 Diluted with a thinner and applied with a airbrush.

I bought it already a longtime ago from Zinnecker Modellbau. don't think you can buy at MZ anymore, but you can send him a email to know for sure. But you can also buy the same hull in the Ukraine by ml-modelships.

After finishing my S.M.S Emden I decided to build for my next project the S.M.S Scharhorst scale 1/100 my decision is based on the interesting history of this ship and the in my eyes beautiful lines of her. The hull is purchased from M.Z Modellbau, (so that one is not scratch) the rest of the model i will make from scratch and some purchased parts, so it will be a combination of both. Will build her in the same way as how I build the Emden (administrators feel free to move this topic where you see need too) so I already started with the model will post some pictures below from the beginning of the project and as where i am at the moment. Sorry for the disorder of my picture,'s

Hello Chris, The pipes they have to be on the outside of the grabbing rings That was also for me a point of confusing, first i made all the pipes on the inside of the grabbing rings, witch was quite a puzzle, but later after studying some pictures, it became clear to me, so i had to re make everything, Only have one picture with all the piping on the inside, did not make a picture with the pipes on the outside before painting.

Hello, Started this project august 2014 (did not keep a build log on this forum, only on a German forum and partly on a Dutch forum.) bought it as a kit from M.Z Modellbau in Germany the kit came with a GFK hull and a lot of resin parts, to make a RC model, Decided to build her as a static display model. used only the bare hull and added a lot of details to it Remade almost all the resin parts 90% of it (structures) So it became a nice collection of evergreen, brass, print board and silver wire. After almost 5 years and researching almost all parts, (used a lot of the work of Mr Huff and collected pictures of the Emden and her sister ship the Dresden) before constructing them. I finished her for almost 95%, still a lot of details to go. below a few pictures for the impression

Hi Mobbsie, I think you underestimate how strong silicon really is, I build my glass case 1.4m x 0.8m x 0.4m of 4mm double layer glass, all bonded with the silicon I mention before, and also I build 2 other glass display cases for my ships all bonded with silicon, all those cases are full glass with no frame or what so ever. And I build a fish tank for my daughter 1m x 0.6m x 0.3m of 7mm glass with no support and that thing till now never leaked one drip of water all bonded with marine silicon. It is not that i have any interest in the silicon industry what so ever, but i come from a 3th generation stonemason family company in the Netherlands , and in that industry we use it a lot, and therefore I know that that stuff is really strong, if you use it in the right way !! just my 2 cents Boris279

Hi Mobbsie, I justed for my Glas display case a silicon used in the marine industry That stuff is really strong mutch better than the regular silicon kit. The brandname of the kit is "Boatlife" here is a link to there webside : http://www.boatlife.com/silicone-rubber-sealant-cartridges/ You will Need to work very precise because after curing it's pretty difficult to remove the spilled dry silicon.

Very Nice work your cannons, nice work !! But i have a little but...the rigging to move the cannons is it not a litle to much line, although i imagine my self the deck in a fight all the gun crews working around the canons, so then i think the long lines must be getting a chaos, Just how i see it, and perhaps i am, wrong just my thought, for the rest a very nice build !!! About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
