Your transom turned out beautifully. This is one of the more tricky pieces!

I could use one of those for the next step, the head rails!

I added boarding ladders and channels – and with that I am finished with Chapter 9
.
The channels as well as the boarding ladder steps I pinned on first (image 1) before I glued them to the hull in order to guarantee optimal placement. This is especially of interest with the channels as the precut notches which determine the locations of the dead eyes later may interfere with the gun ports if the placement is not done correctly. Images 2 – 5 show some different perspectives of the model with boarding ladders and channels attached.

Richard, it looks to me like your planking is coming along very nicely. And were spiling is concerned I used very little during the planking of the Syren hull . . . and where I used it I did not think very much about it but just "adjusted" the one or other plank for a better fit

Beautifully done, Richard! It is a pleasure to watch your progress!

It looks like you are progressing very well! At that pace you will be finished with the Confederacy while I am still trying to figure out how to get my Syren done!

Your Syren looks great! Having gratings and completed guns on a deck always makes a big difference in the appearance of a ship model. Can't wait until I get to this point myself!

Thank you, John. You are absolutely right, this forum with its many logs documenting different techniques and styles is really a great resource for building ship models!

Richard, Augie, Dirk, and B.E., thank you for your nice comments!
I am always in awe when I look at your build logs. The creativity, the ideas on how to improve on the details of already well designed kits, the craftsmanship . . . it is just a pleasure to watch and learn!

I finished the gun port lids and mounted some of the cleats needed to belay the lines operating the upper lids (images 2 – 6). Before using the cleats provided by the kit I cleaned them up, added pins, and reduced the size of their feet (image 1).

Image 2 Finished rear gun ports - with the exception of the davits the stern is pretty much complete

I am really looking forward to your new build, Bob! Essex is one of the frigates I am considering for my next build as well, although there is still some time until I need to make that decision
:) .

Your carronades look good! She starts to look like a warship now

Welcome back, Larry! Glad to have another build log to get ideas from

Very clean planking job, Jason! A great addition to the Syren fleet!

Richard, I forgot to applaud you on your figure head. She looks very good! And you even managed to give her a nice face! At that scale this is not easy at all. The few attempts I tried so far always ended resembling the devil's grandmother

Thank you, Richard! For the cannons I modified gun barrels from Caldercraft. I can't remember, I either used the 9lb or the 18lb guns (scale 1:64), whichever were closer to the dimensions in Chuck's plan. Actually one of them fitted the dimensions quite well. But you may also look at the gun barrels which you can get from Chuck (see Dirk Dubz's build log). They probably are an even better fit. I am still debating whether I ultimately switch to them myself . . .

Hello Richard, welcome back! Your Syren looks great! I will closely look at your head rail to see how that part needs to be done
Thomas

Nice try, Dirk! But with your speed and productivity you will be long finished before I even get started

Thank you, Russ! However, I know where I have my limits

Thank you, ZyXuz!

Given your superb track record with your other builds I am sure this one will just continue the "tradition" - with or without power tools.

Great progress, Augie. Your framing is done very nicely! And I love your color choice . . . have to keep that one in mind for later models![:)](https://modelshipworld.com/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png)
