Mike 41 got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in HMY Fubbs 1682 by Mike 41 - FINISHED - Weasel Works – Stern Section – 1:24
Display stand / Finished Pictures
I used white oak and bloodwood for the stand and my pool table for the photos background. The Fubbs Stern Section was the largest section model I have made, three months from start to finish was possible due to the precision parts in the kit by Mike Shanks and the artwork by Jodie.

Yes indeed. We started with relief carving and the initial pieces were all laser cut blanks.
Then we moved onto some gun port wreaths. A lovely time.

Mike 41 reacted to DocBlake in Royal Yacht HMY Fubbs 1682 by DocBlake – 1:24 Scale - Stern Section
Thanks, guys!
Progress so far: The first 6 frames are installed (25 - 27A). The most important measurement is how high above the keel the futtock frames sit. Each is different, increasing in distance as we move aft. To make checking this easier, I drew to proper dimension on thin pieces of stock; each measurement having it's own little "ruler". Eliminates the difficulty of trying to read the tiny gradations on a metric rule! After frame 25, each frame moving aft has it's top timber about 1.5 mm higher than the frame in front of it. You can see the "saw-tooth" pattern developing along the top timbers

I have been working on the head rails. The drawing showing the lower knee made a good pattern and fit nicely. The upper knee drawing did not make a very good pattern so I divided it into three pieces using the drawing for the end pieces and used some modeling clay to form the middle section. I carefully removed the clay and traced the outline on a paper pattern after some trimming the center section fit.
