Nirvana got a reaction from dgbot in 18th Century Longboat by Nirvana - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:48
I had the interior wiped with poly. This one comes from General finishes,
While waiting for drying I did a test with the Valejo Red RLM23 see the strip to the left.
I like the color as it has both a bright but also a little dirty tone to it.
This is the color I chosen for the cap rail and the 12mm paint job on the inside.

The first starboard floorboard has been shaped (slightly tapered) then soaked for 20 minutes.
Using clamps with rubber head (no marking) I clamped the board down using pins for spacing.
This way I got the shape of the bent until it is time for gluing.
Realized that doing this before adding the cap rail has it's advantages.

A long time has elapsed since I started the log, however today I am uploading the very latest pics, work has been done during the day.
The hull was fully planked earlier this week.
I had to do some mod's as I noticed some of the planks didn't attach fully to the bulkheads. All is CA glued.
The bulkhead support (coffee stirrer from a famous coffee chain) was cut into parts by the new Dremel Micro 8050

The machine itself is really nice to work with, it's re-chargeable Li-On batteries charges fast and it's easy to hold (low weight)
General Finishes Arm-R-Seal is the poly wipe on I am using.
I didn't even bother to let it dry the slow way, I used the hair dryer.
Some extra light sanding I and I should be ready for painting.

    David,
It's regular paperclips you can find in any store.

There are several different sizes of them.
This is one of the smaller.

    Take three clips

    Remove the "ears"

Slide the single "ear" into the next clip

    Twist 90 degree

And done, you will have two clips from three

And the outcome of the garboard planks.
    Sorry for the shaded areas.
Came out much better than I expected.

Since eye sighting can be difficult and a camera "doesn't lie", I thought why not use this to it's advantage.
Using the screen on the camera and uploading to any image editing software I found it easy to see where adjustments were needed.

The only bulkhead glued in place is 0. Still this one is adjustable.
Using a cloth pin at the stern, the line up started to come out good.
I am so happy to work this kit, just look at the bulkheads smiley face

    Keelson in place.
After previous shaping I used CA to glue it down.
At the end I didn't have any air gap between the keel and keelson, so all the tedious sanding had its great final result.

    Mark,

Seems like it is the top-notch when it comes to paint.

There are two versions of the paint, one acrylic and one lacquer based.

This is what I found so far.

    Gunze Sangyo Aqueous
Japan was early to adopt  acrylic paints in modelling, and Gunze Sangyo has been in the forefront of the development. Gunze Sangyo Aqueous colours are still some of the finest flowing acrylic airbrush paints available. Thinning may be accomplished with either isopropyl alcohol or Gunze thinner, both producing super-thin, smooth coats.

The solvent based is called Mr Color.

And a couple of other photos of the planking ...

One thing you might notice is the scratches on the stem. I tried to be careful, but evidently not enough. I'm not sure what to do about this right at the moment ... maybe I can sand it out later.

With the boxwood replacement from Jeff at HobbyMill I cut the keelson, soaked it for 20 minutes and thereafter pinned it down to the keel.
It's not glued into place, this is only for shaping.
The darker shade  at the starboard aft side is poly-wipe-on.
So easy to remove when not wanted, or painted over if needed.
When removed the wood gets a natural luster.

Shaping the frames towards the end I have used a tool that I found at HobbyTown store,
I found them (three in one set, #220 #400 and #800) useful specially with its curved edges.
This way I won't get stuck on any of the frames and dislocating any.
I have also used one of them on the inside of the planks to get a smoother finish.

I was also thinking of painting the red part of inner hull before adding the cap rail.

Yes you gotta love that wipe on poly
Is a great finish and protector

I read a tip here somewhere that marbles in your bottle of polly, will keep air in bottle to a min
just add more marbles as you go to keep liquid near top of bottle.
Stops the polly from drying out in the bottle, and thickening up before you can use it all.
