After a year away from my hobbies, I needed a simple kit to get my brain working again.  I pulled this off the shelf and dusted it off with excitement, I hope this goes well!!

Next I decided to plank the cabin deck with some extra Tanganyka wood I had from another kit, this pic is just the beginning, I will post the finished one later, it's already installed in the boat

I got the deck attached pretty easily.  Good old rubber bands and wood work their magic

Now that the deck is in place it was time for the keep strip and the chines.  Pretty straight forward, the basswood works great for this step, soaked them in water for an hour and they went in perfect.  Sanded each end to flush with the frame.

Got the sides on, now I need to straighten the edges some more, build going pretty smooth so far.  The bottom strip are next.  After that the agonizing step of choosing a paint scheme will follow.

I am going to build this one straight forward, probably make a scratch one in the future and get a little creative.  This is a fun one.

Thanks Cap'n!  I checked out your Flattie log before I started, very nice.  The rigging is awesome.  I hope don't mind if I borrow your scupper idea for the rails.

Decided on a paint scheme, went with three types of gray.  Good old Folk Art acrylic from the craft store.

I use artist's acrylics on my models and they do a pretty good job. My painting skills are not the best, so that is generally where I run into trouble. :)

I know, all the work put into the wood only aspects, the thought of ruining it with one brush of paint is truly agonizing.

looking sweet Casey......good idea for the windows.    I built the Maine Lobster boat........I used clear cello,  since with the roof on,  nothing can be seen anyway  ;)   another fellow on the site turned me onto something else......the film from floppy disc.   it had two sides......a flat side and a glossy side,  depending what you wish to show.

great job on the boat ..........very well done!

Thanks. I'm having a hard time picking rigging lines. The ones with the kit are very thin and the ropes I have in storage a a bit too big for the blocks

The rigging lines for a boat like this would have been small. Maybe a 1/2" diameter, but probably 3/8" diameter or so. Take .375 and divide by the scale denominator and see what size that is. That would probably be about right.
