After you tied them did you add a little glue to keep them secure?

Very impressive.  I stand in awe.  However, I think I'm ahead in the build and might just beat you  :dancetl6:

Hello all bit more final touches completed

ive done some of the winch lines and various ropes

as for the trawl doors im not satisfied with the look of the 2mm brass surround i have decided to remake these using one of them i removed the brass and added 3mm to the bottom and 3mm to the side then i was able to use this as a template to create two new doors 1mm shy of the door with fitted brass wire i will next attach 0.5mm brass all around doors  and see how that looks

Steve,I think I get the rope coiling jig except what is the purpose of the paper?   I presume as well that getting the finished coils off the base board wasn't a problem - not glued down?

I can't figure out where your trawl doors are installed on the boat.  Where do they go?  They look pretty awesome by the way.

Hi Doug the photos seemed to come out the reverse of how i posted them try looking at them from bottom to top the paper is infact doublesided tape used to stick the line to the board when wrapping

the trawl doors are the strange looking device the winch operates

I figured out the reverse order of picture but missed the two-sidedness of the tape!  Thanks for the explanation.

Now I see the trawl doors on the box photo on page 1.

Steve, I noticed on my kit that the little pulley frame that the sliding doors sits on is mounted one way in the instructions and another way on the box cover. Did you have the same problem, and if so, which way did you mount them.

Looking great by the way.

Derek

I must have overlooked that particular post because I referred to your build log constantly.  I made it like the picture on the box.  I wish I hadn't now because it looks a bit off but it will be our little secret.  Just like the beds that will never be seen  ;)

progress so far on the Mare Nostrum the last part of the build I have found frustrating with the trawl doors

the instuctions call for 4 brass pins to be shaped and fitted tied together with a silver wire the first door I did I was pleased with however trying to recreate this with the second has so far took ten attempts and to date im not happy so will carry on trying to replicate the first.

and for the border of the doors they call for a 2mm brass wire to be fitted I have tried this but not happy with the result I ordered some 0.5 mm brass plate in the hope I could rip 2mm strips to use as the surround however all this has resulted in is I now need to order a new blade for my proxxon saw

I remade the doors to the size of original includeing 2mm brass wire so if I cant figure out how to make 2mm x0.5 surround I may just use the doors without brass surround

thanks doug the brass work has definitely been a challenge I have no experience with brass or soldering and perhaps this should be an avenue I should explore I welcome the new challenges and will not let the model say complete until I feel it is COMPLETE
