Hi George,

Funny ,my name Sjors is George in English 😀

Then about the nails.

Even when you paint the hull white you always see them

I think you glued the planks against the frames?

Then it is no problem to remove them

Just a small screwdriver under the head and you can remove them with a plier.

Good luck.

Oh...your name George also??? too funny!!! I am glad George

I follow your job...too many models...seems that you love it.....and you make exellent work...bravo...

About the nails....there are too many of them as you see...i will try to cover them with wood putty and sand them well to make the surface smooth...i difficult to remove one by one all the nails and if i remove them ,i must put wood putty to cover the holes,so i  will smooth with hard sandpaper the head of the nails ( the metal is soft) to make them flat and put there some wood putty..Lets see if my idea works...

@Captain Jack Sparrow, you know that you can buy the San Ildefonso in boxes?
I have done the same and maybe i will buy the Montañez the same way.

You don’t have to pay the total amount at once.

Just box by box when you finished one you can buy the next one.

After one month i have finish the planking of other side. I put in place the base of the stern. Now i must trim well all hull so the heads of the nails not to be seen after i paint it white. Hull must be completly smooth. Next step is to place the rubbing strakes (4+2 for each side under and above the gun ports) to paint the white and yellow area well.  Lets see....

Okeeeee,

Hi George from Greece 😀

Wow, all the filler is sold out in Greece???

Now you have a lot of sanding to do!

And don’t forget to remove the nails.

You will see that when you paint the hull.

And don’t forget to sand around the gunports.

The planks are thick enough.

Good luck!

After one year from the beginning i have finished the painting of the hull. I put and paint the black strips on the side of the ship. My yellow paint was no mat so some reflections are visible...maybe i must repaint it with mat paint...i will see... Now i must make the frames of the gunports, paint them red and cover any gaps with the hull around them. Is a a very challenged job...IMGA0923.thumb.JPG.3a3356a6f7586f5a8402a3738fe48748.JPGIMGA0924.thumb.JPG.d28a6a3c4d26238ddb4f26e3515c1272.JPGIMGA0925.thumb.JPG.e5c2ee4d6a2207c840c6c826994af48a.JPG

This project is coming along very nicely!

I am just now looking into a project for the San Ildefonso, or maybe the Montanes.

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice that the 2 main gun decks are closer together (top to bottom) than on similar British ships of this time period?

Both the San Ildefonso and Montanes seem to have the gunport opening very close together, top to bottom (not side to side).

It's like there is very little room on the lower gun deck for people to stand--moreso than normal!

Does anyone else notice this?

Finally i have finish the frames of the right side gunports. Four planks 10-12mm cutted in 45 degrees for each port. After closing small gaps arount frames, sanding and correct the yellow color. Masking and painting red the frames. Small corrections also..Now starting the left side...with the expierience it will be faster and better. To be continued....

Difficult job in a 2X2 mm strake...For the curved strake, between upper and second strake,i use brass wire as instructed. Now the same to the other side of the ship...

The decoration of the bow continued. The two pieces must glued making the right curve,as seen in photos,so a left them some hours in water to be more soft and not to be cracked, just like we made with hull planking, but this wood is more easier to bend. So in photos you see the painted parts in place. Also the two davids...i  thing that are used to raise the small boat of the ship...are clued in place with the brackets to support them. Now i must make by hand...26 samson post to glue them in the front gallant raills of the ship 10 left and right and 6 in the front, made from a piece of wood 5X5X10mm and using a hand file,to make the neck,as you see in photos....now we have job to do.,.....and the decoration of the bow is continued with new pieces....

Two holes 3mm also for the anchor ropes. Make up two gratings, 5X5 cm square shape. I must cut them,to adjust their shape,so can fit in place..i use a part of paper,as a guide, cut it an adjust it,so can fit properly. After i use it as a patron,to cut the gratings, and glue them in place...Be continued...

Now i made the grating sections,7 for each side and the frames also... I made also the grating sections of the lower deck. Above this sections will be placed the small boat of the ship. The difficult job here is the iron balls, the ammunition for the cannons, that must glued all arround in the frames. To do this is make small blind holes,so the balls can be placed and glued...See the attached fotos...Continued...

Now is time for the gun ports, they will be fitted in the lower deck only. I must make 28 gunports, from 2 piece of wood,an external (the biggest) and an internal (smaller) glued together an in each external piece i must glue two brass hinges and make the gunport lids using pins bending them 90 degrees. This a very difficult job and time spending job, because all part are very small....
