Submariner's question for older S-48 kit model (BlueJacket Shipcrafters)

I had contacted Bluejacket about the kit S-48, which Nic was kind enough to respond telling me 

FYI, the kit has to be from later than 1972. That's when Boucher became
BlueJacket. I don't doubt that the plans are from 1935, however.

Was wondering if anyone else has information on this kit along with the author of the plans? Wondering if there was a model back in 1935 that was produced with these plans and if so; whom put the kit out?

 

From my research I haven't found the original source of the plans in regards to a much older original kit, any info would be appreciated.

Can't answer your questions, but that is a lovely carved hull! These were very interesting boats, especially considering that they were already long in the tooth when WWII broke out.

I agree wholeheartedly. The interesting thing is I have never seen this kit ever before, like it just pop up from nowhere. Nic seems to have very little information on it also, which I do find strange. 

 

Seems that there has only been three (kits) of them sold in the past 5 years then there's no information,  I know of three out there including mine. 

 

Threw thorough research I have come up with a possible associated model from Ideal offered for $2.50. Here's the images for comparison:

 

 

So just possible Bluejacket picked up the model rights of it and then used a original 1935 blueprint for the kits build authenticity.

Seems this is plausible, but not confirmed and will be as close to the history of the kit and draftsman I can come up with.

@MrBlueJacket, many thanks for the research on her! That's fantastic you still have the original catalog from 1938 and the sub is listed in the catalog. Now I know it is from 1938 and have the Provence to prove it's rarity. How many ship kits are in the catalog? Can I have a pdf scan of the entire catalog or a copy of it? Will be glad to pay for it; for this documentation on the sub and have a reference for other older models to be on the lookout from Boucher. I don't mean to impose with the request as I know it takes time and effort to produce copies or a complete pdf scans.

 

Again thank you very much for the Provence documentation along with the time involved hunting for it.

Your kit is not from 1938, since it has the BlueJacket label, it is after 1972. It shows that the kit design goes back that far.

My mistake, thanks for clarifying. I am wondering if you have the kit listed in another catalog from 1978 to the present? Very curios as to the cost of the original Bluejacket offering.  Again thanks for your time with this.

Hi Nic: some neat looking kits on that page! You should turn Al loose on recreating the sub, or the Savannah for that matter😃

Personally, I love the Savannah, but it was not a good seller.
