Supply source for swivel cannons?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Building the Lady Nelson and as mentioned on the forum, the swivel cannons provided by Amati might probably be out of scale (too big). That being said, every cutter built (real ones) had swivel cannons (1/2 pounders perhaps?) I’ve searched with no luck… does anyone know where I can score 1:64 scale swivel cannons?

Dave,

Have you looked at the ones from Syren? https://syrenshipmodelcompany.com/turned-brass-cannon.php#!/Turned-Brass-Swivel-Guns-13-16-long-20-75-mm-1-4-scale-4-per-pack/p/50194771/category=5764759

Another option would be to 3D print them if you have access to an SLA printer. There are plenty of design files floating around.

How long are those?

Looking in another log, they look a lot like the ones that came with my Resolution.

I modified them to look like this, and feel they  don't  look too bad.  I'll show you the steps I took if you are interested.

Dave, From Caruana, volume 2, the swivel guns had been 3 feet long as standard until about 1727 then barrels of 30" became the British navy standard for 1/2 pounders.    For the LN, 2.5 foot long barrels would be most appropriate so at1:64 they would be just under 1/2" long.   The ones from Syren look great but are huge compared to what you require.
