Don't think she made it that far if memory serves. Once was adrift in a LCVP in that triangle, good and bad seamanship involved.

Thats the one Eamonn, you got it.  Was trying to be sneaky there with the dazzle camouflage.

USS Cyclops (AC-4) was one of four Proteus-class colliers built for the United States Navy several years before World War I. The loss of the ship and 306 crew and passengers without a trace within the area known as the Bermuda Triangle[1] some time after 4 March 1918 remains the single largest loss of life in U.S. Naval history not directly involving combat. As it was wartime, there was speculation she was captured or sunk by a German raider or submarine, because she was carrying 10,800 long tons (11,000 t) of manganese ore used to produce munitions, but German authorities at the time, and subsequently, denied any knowledge of the vessel. The Naval History & Heritage Command has stated she "probably sank in an unexpected storm" but the actual cause is unknown.

Cheers,

Jason

Woo Hoo ... my first ever win on this thread !!!

Okay, the only reason I'm posting THIS ship is because my father served on her ...

(According to him, she was a three-master during his time onboard)

You have it, Eamonn ... that's the name I was looking for.

Over to you.

EDIT: She was lost in the Straits of Malaysia in 1957 ... either due to storms or pirates ... a year after Dad left service with her. The wreck (as posted) re-appeared to the north of Tasmania some years later. By co-incidence, less than 50 miles from where he currently lives !!

Did you find her Jan ?  The fact that you mentioned Gaelic indicated you have ;)  or did you use Picture Search too?

Hint for non Picture Search searchers.. A ship with the same name continues to trade not too far from me !

Sometimes I've done the same thing myself, but then excluded myself from that 'game'  as yourself and Captain Steve have.

What made you 'give up' ? you were on the right track ^_^
